Even in the Dark Lyrics
For those who work so hard
And never see their children
Never see their children grow
Into the gifts they give them
This is life is all unknown
Gotta listen to their laughter
Everyone must be heard now
Even in the dark
For those who seek no answers
Keep it from the table
Ignorance is eaten up
When everyone must be fed
This life is constant hunger
See it in the dreamers
Believe in the believers of never-ending love
An endless kind of love
Even in the darkness
Whoa...
Even in the dark
Find your calling
Even in the dark
Find your calling
Find your calling
Even in the dark
Find your calling
You gotta find your calling
Even in the dark
Everyone must be heard
Even in the darkness
Even in the dark
Even in the darkness
Whoa...
Even in the dark
And never see their children
Never see their children grow
Into the gifts they give them
Gotta listen to their laughter
Everyone must be heard now
Even in the dark
Keep it from the table
Ignorance is eaten up
When everyone must be fed
See it in the dreamers
Believe in the believers of never-ending love
An endless kind of love
Whoa...
Even in the dark
Even in the dark
Find your calling
Even in the dark
Find your calling
You gotta find your calling
Even in the dark
Everyone must be heard
Even in the darkness
Even in the darkness
Whoa...
Even in the dark

It's about how our culture is so materialistic, and we have our priorities so mixed up, valuing the material before living creatures. She sings how we must try and find our calling and find meaning in our lives despite the obvious materialism and other factors working against that goal.
I interpret the song as being about families with low education who have to work a lot and don't have time for their kids and their education. I see it as a call to children born in those circumstances to find and develop their talents, even if they haven't been brought up to be educated and don't have family around. Darkness=Benighted/ignorance and having no one there to help

"For those who work so hard Never see their children grow Into the gifts they give them" - Parents that have to work 2 and 3 jobs to keep food on the table, they don't have time to make their kids live up to their potential and cultivate their natural gifts. They have so much potential that never is lived up to
"Those who seek no answers Keep it from the table Ignorance is eaten up When everyone must be fed" -Parents who never cared for learning will bring the same apathy towards education down to their children without the children realizing what they're missing. The cycle of ignorance continues. Again, not living up to their potential

- the fact that we all are looking for something in life, and our dreams change drastically between when we're ignorant and when we're educated (think of how many children have that hungry aspiration for fame, ignorant of their low chances of success. All the while they do poorly in school and end up living a life they never wanted, unable to get jobs they'd really be best at)When they talk about the never-ending love, I think of the love of learning; it's what we're actually hungry for this whole time, and it's the key to reach grand, realistic dreams.
"Find your calling, Even in the dark" -Even though no one is helping you to become the great person you can be (your family isn't there and you would normally never have a shot at life), find what you're good at (your calling) and develop it.
I absolutely love this song when I see it this way. I feel like the interp is good and makes sense, but I can never really know what Company of Thieves means in a lot of their songs. Anyway, hope this is a new/good perspective.
