Maybe one of my favorite songs on this album, which is an amazing album. Not 100% sure what this song is really about, but to me, it's the end of a relationship which has only been going through the motions for the past while. The guy had 'checked out' for the relationship long ago and now just wants to enjoy himself and doesn't really care that it's over and done with. Good chance I'm far off on the meaning but just kinda how I see it. Maybe he is actually hurting a lot and the only way he can deal with it is to drink away the pain. The more I listen, the more I pick up on little things. All in all, amazing song, great job with this one!
Colin says on the Friends and Total Strangers DVD that he ran into Ron Hines (whos a fantastic Canadian Songwriter) somewhere in NFLD and Ron told him to write a song with "I cant stop laughing, I'm not even happy" in it.
It seems pretty straight forward to me. The man is heartbroken because his wife just left him, and he's trying to remove the pain of the heartbreak by drinking a lot of alcohol and by laughing a lot.
