Ghost Lyrics
Early morning, dreary horizon
Aching hands are pulling a millstone
Wailing from the cart
Moaning from a shattered heart
He’s burned down many a bridge
And he’s scared of walking in the dark
It hurts when the rain falls on his skin
Oh he is worn out from marching
And he’s forgotten for what he’s searching
Yet he keeps up the stride
God knows that he won’t arrive
Aching hands are pulling a millstone
Wailing from the cart
Moaning from a shattered heart
And he’s scared of walking in the dark
It hurts when the rain falls on his skin
And he’s forgotten for what he’s searching
Yet he keeps up the stride
God knows that he won’t arrive

It's about a boy who becomes a ghost of a person because someone (probably a girl) broke his heart.
Ex: "Moaning from a shattered heart"
So he's forgotten how to feel (feeling is painful for him)
Ex: "It hurts when the rain falls on his skin"
and to him, since his whole world might have revolved around her, he doesn't know how to move on. So he just keeps shuffling on through life like a ghost in limbo, searching for a remedy to his "shattered heart". Through he doesn't even remember that because most ghosts have been portrayed to just linger and don't remember why they're haunting.
Ex: "Oh he is worn out from marching And he’s forgotten for what he’s searching Yet he keeps up the stride God knows that he won’t arrive"
That last line is really gloomy because to me it means he won't find a remedy to his "shattered heart".

strange music, but i think this music wants mean about a person without perspective of life. "And he's forgotten for what he's searching..." "
can someone explain to me the meaning of "many a bridge"?
@trindl It's just another way of saying 'many bridges'. I think the act of burning bridges means cutting off ties with your past or what you knew before. In this song, I think it's meant to show how the guy's no longer a part of the girl's life (she's his past). He's left behind the heart she broke in search for a way to make it whole again.

"Early morning, dreary horizon Aching hands are pulling a millstone" I get the image of an old mill worker who died, and as a ghost, continues the job he had in life.
"Wailing from the cart Moaning from a shattered heart And he’s scared of walking in the dark It hurts when the rain falls on his skin"
He cries and moans over the regrets he had about his life, and they are what is keeping him here. He's burned down many bridges HIMSELF, and he fears being alone, moving on, and thus, into the unknown. As far as his shattered heart, I believe it could be ANYTHING, not just a lover. There's no real romantic hinting in this song, honestly. It's obvious that he has caused some of this pain and regret himself as well. Everything hurts him because he cannot heal, and the pounding rain just drags him down even further.
"Oh he is worn out from marching And he’s forgotten for what he’s searching Yet he keeps up the stride God knows that he won’t arrive"
He continues to march, though he is weary, that is all he feels he can do. He's forgotten his purpose, because he is dead and lost now. He is a ghost, he will never "arrive" anywhere anymore.
