What If Lyrics

Stand tall
Head and shoulders down
they dont make em' like us anymore

You failed
To see that I am not your shadow
I can be more

You said
The world is hard to face
I am your umbrella Megan

But I
Can keep up with its pace if you let me go i'll strengthen

What if i see you down the line?
What if i built up what was mine?
What if i didnt forget passion like you did?
(What if you...)
What if i find my purpose first?
What if i fulfill my lifes work?
What if you counting on my failure made me live?
(What if you..)

Not scared
I know you thought i was shaking fast in my own two shoes
But theses soles could fight the ocean waves
Dirty laundry, and world war II

Finally i see past my front hands
Not a cowards piss stained pants
Thank you for telling me
I cant without out you i wouldnt be where i am

What if i see you down the line?
What if i took back my lost time?
What if i didnt forget passion like you did?
(What if you...)
What if i find my purpose first?
What if i fulfill my lifes work?
What if you counting on my failure made me live?
(What if you..)

Well if you see me agian
You wont know my face
But you'll recall my heart
Inside of me a side of you is traced

When i see you again
I wont be bitter
You so far to blame
You brought up this change
I was so much of you i wont ever be the same

What if i see you down the line?
What if i took back what was mine?
What if i didnt forget passion like you did?
(What if you...)
What if i find my purpose first?
What if i fulfill my lifes work?
What if you counting on my failure made me live?
(What if you..)
What if you counting on my failure made me live?
(What if..)
What if you counting on my failure made me live?

Well, I think that the lyric "I am you umbrella, Megan." is like a clue to the meaning. I think it's about older sisters (maybe brothers too, I dont know) And how you don't have to follow their path. Or maybe how just because their older than you, doesn't mean that you can't be the one they look up to, or that they won't need you to stand up for them. Also how older siblings are such a big impact on the younger one's life.

I don't know, that's what I get out of it.

I think it's about Meg saying she can stand up for herself all while not having to follow her sister's path, she'll live all the more fiercely because Dia is counting on her failures. Dia is just trying to protect her little sister and be her umbrella from everything.

I feel in sync with this song. Big sisters don't want to give up their passion and cajole their little sisters through life, but they want to be their "umbrellas", sometimes. And little sisters want to prove themselves to their big sisters. I think anyone close to a big/little sister could relate to this... :) Love it.

I think that makes sense, except that Meg is the older one, I'm pretty sure...
