El Dia De Los Muertos Lyrics

It's All Souls Day
I hear you say
It's All Souls Day
And you've come to play
For the lost ones
The unadorned ones
Here today

El dia de los muertos
El dia de los muertos
Bailamos el Xantalo!

Kiss the bride
Dance with me
Come rattle these bones
Come and shake my tree
Embrace me irreverently
Now with marigolds
Shower me!

There is more time than life
One never dies twice
There is more time than life
One never dies twice

Wearing quetzal plumes
Through eight underworlds
Death comes shining
A thousand bright colours
And music out of this world
Serenades to bony twirls!

Me lleva el diablo
La muerte va da viaje
Esta es musica del otro mundo
Buenos noches y adios
Hasta luego mi amigos
See you in heaven or
See you in hell
All will be levelled
All will be well
Bailamos el Xantolo!

Ma lleva el diablo
La muerte va de viaje
Esta es musica
Del otro mundo

Cover art for El Dia De Los Muertos lyrics by Siouxsie and the Banshees

For those who don't know... El dia de los Muertos (The day of the Dead) is a celebration that occurs in Mexico around late October or early November. The Xantalo is a dance often associated with this holiday. The quetzal is a group of birds native to Central America that have long feathers on their tails, and these feathers are often used in the headdresses of Aztec and Mayan priests. In Aztec folklore, there are eight underworlds.

Also, here's an English translation of the Spanish lines in the penultimate verse: The devil carries me The voyage of death This is music from another world Goodnight and good bye See you later my friends
