Shangri-La Lyrics
Up on the sun, this time tomorrow
Fly, walk, or run, but this time no sorrow
First stop, Jackson, next stop, Shangri-La
And I cannot wait to see the expression on the face of my sweet lord
And back on the trail this time tomorrow, by foot, wheel, or sail, but this time no sorrow
First stop, Jackson, next stop, Shangri-La
And I cannot wait to see the expression on the face of my sweet lord
No, I cannot wait to hear you call my name
And forget me not, this time tomorrow
I gave all I got, but this time no sorrow
First stop, Jackson, next stop, Shangri-La
And I cannot wait to see the expression on the face of my sweet lord
No, I cannot wait to hear you call my name
Fly, walk, or run, but this time no sorrow
First stop, Jackson, next stop, Shangri-La
And I cannot wait to see the expression on the face of my sweet lord
And back on the trail this time tomorrow, by foot, wheel, or sail, but this time no sorrow
First stop, Jackson, next stop, Shangri-La
And I cannot wait to see the expression on the face of my sweet lord
No, I cannot wait to hear you call my name
I gave all I got, but this time no sorrow
First stop, Jackson, next stop, Shangri-La
And I cannot wait to see the expression on the face of my sweet lord
No, I cannot wait to hear you call my name

And back on the train this time tomorrow, by foot we'll ... but this time no sorrow
I believe this line is:
"And back on the trail this time tomorrow, by foot, wheel, or sail, but this time no sorrow"
when he says "first stop, jackson" what does "jackson" mean?
when he says "first stop, jackson" what does "jackson" mean?
jackson mississippi, perhaps.
jackson mississippi, perhaps.
"This Time Tomorrow" and "Shangri-La" are two of the very best Kinks songs, and "My Sweet Lord" is a single from George Harrison's triple album 'All Things Must Pass.' Surely M. Ward has spent time with them all.
'Up On The Sun' is a Meat Puppets song, and also a Meat Puppets album. I suspect Ward is a fan; I know he likes some other SST stuff.
Seems like Ward might have been having fun constructing a song out of other song titles, and adding his own connective tissue. There might be some other references in there too. Anyone?
"Jackson" is a song most famous as sung by Johnny Cash & June Carter.
