Wars Lyrics

Show me a smile on your silly face
'Cause I'm getting tired of this human race,
My darling...

The eyes of a child as I went away,
And how many heroes have we killed today?
I can fly higher than an aeroplane
And I have the voice of a thousand hurricanes
My darling...

Men of destruction reap iniquity
When heroes of courage die with dignity
How many weapons did I help create?
How many lives will I devestate?
My darling...

I think of all the days in my life
Where I could have done something more
Yes I remember the days in my life
Where I could have done something more
There is never a day that goes by,
That's a good day to die
Just open your eyes to the millions of lives,
That will selflessly die in our wars

I think of all the days in my life
Where I could have done something more
Ya I remember the days in my life
Where I should have done something more
I think of all the days in my life
Where I could have done something more
Yes I remember the days in my life
Where I should have done something more
There was never a day that goes by
That's a good day to die
Please open your eyes, oh
There was never a day that went by
That's a good day to die
Won't you please close your eyes?
For the millions of lives...
Who have senselessly died in a war?

Peace over war is the basic structure of the song. Help people rather than hurt them. But there's something more, this song just connects with me. The underlying meaning of the song is unique to everyone I think, and too hard to explain in words.

J. Loren says in the HURT press release: "For instance, the song “Wars,” I’m already getting what I expected — people are used to artists doing the whole peacenik thing. But the fact is I worked as an aircraft consultant, and I made jets to blow the shit out of people. It’s not like I’m a complete pacifist, I’m saying, it’s a damn shame that people have to do this.”

Lyrics are a little off. The band has the lyrics posted on their myspace page.

For me, this is an internal war he's dealing with, not really the external one going on in the outside world. Like, how many people's lives has he devastated? It's like he's pleading to his darling that he's sorry he hurt her, but oh, by the way, it could be worse because people die in the real war.

I don't really know, but I'm curious what you guys think!!

their sound has turn to more like shinedown, and J.'s vocals sound a shit ton like shaun morgans :|, interesting mix, gotta love hurt :DD

yup figured it, the distortion that hurt use to have is gone... thats why they sound like shinedown a little.

i guess this album isnt as sad as the others? thats why the distortion is gone?

The band said in on interview on March 5, 2009 on Sirius Satellite channel OCTANE, that this song was inspired by being burried alive and waking up in your coffin. So what he is doing, is laying in his coffin, and thinking about his life since it is over. WhitePawn has a great post of what he was actually thinking about... but I just thought it was neat to hear the context of the situation.

This song is about a kid that is dying from cancer. All the days of my life that i could have done... something more. They wrote this song for that kid. Thats what he is saying.

Song Meaning

To make your statement true, you need to back it up by the quotes. Why cancer? What lyric suggests it's for a kid? "All the days of my life that I could have done something more" Is a lot more open ended than what you're suggestingxD

I like to think that this song is mostly about the physical wars going on in the world. The last lines: "Won't you please close your eyes? For the millions of lives... Who have senselessly died in a war?"
Makes me think of how many people have died fighting that didn't need to, present and past.

"How many weapons did I help create? How many lives will I devestate?" Those are my favorite lines in the song! Really powerful in my opinion.

Great song, obviously about war but the chorus can double in meaning - Anyone who feels they have wasted any part of their life should be able to relate to this. My two other thoughts on this song are: 1) this is a really stupid and generic band name and 2) this song has some bad ass guitar rifs. That is all.

My Opinion

actually their name fits in quite perfectly if you listen to their previous music and know the truth behind it, so dont be dissin hurt thanks. and second JW interesting interpretation i think both your and whitepwn put together describe it exactly

Does anyone notice how well this song fits Iron Man(the movie, I don't know about the comics)?
