Questions and Lies Lyrics

At first, complete trust
Submerged me and made me feel
Like "I'm flyin'"
But this time
Don't lie

I never wanted you to be the one I hate
I guess you're the same as the rest
I never wanted you to be the one I hate
I guess I'm what you'd expect

Sometimes we fall
Face first
Into these games
Expectation, no wrong
And it hurts
But who admits to blame?

I never wanted you to be the one I hate
I guess you're the same as the rest
I never wanted you to be the one I hate
I guess I'm what you'd expect

You
Never gave a fuck about
Anyone about your fucking self
You never cared
A fuck about yourself
Lie to yourself
Lie to your face
You keep lying
And once you cared...

Blowing out
Blowing out birthday candles
In this empty room
Blowing out
Blowing out birthday candles
In this empty room

I never wanted you to be the one I hate
I guess you're the same as the rest
I never wanted you to be the one I hate
I guess I'm what you'd expect
I never wanted you to be the one I hate...

Cover art for Questions and Lies lyrics by Swift

To me, this is about a parent who is too self-absorbed to be involved with their child. In stead of acknowledging their own mistakes and short-comings, they blame the child. Hence, the child is left to deal with the guilt and pain of having an absent parent.
