This is a social commentary on how all women are supposed to want is love, a relationship... It can also be extended to all of society. Even if you're successful and you have a lot of friends, if you're single society says you're missing the most important part. This is a really intelligent song.
To me, this song is about how modern women allow themselves to be used up by the time they turn 30 (if not sooner). They take one of three destructive paths in the process:
- They don't look for love, but instead "hook up" in pursuit of emotionless, short-term gratification.
- They look for "love" as defined by popular culture, and don't have a clue what true love really is.
- They look for true love, but don't have the critical thinking skills necessary to learn from past mistakes.
Unfortunately, the women who follow the first path may be pathologically incapable of carrying on a long-term, monogamous relationship involving both physical and emotional intimacy. At least the women on the second and third paths are salvageable, but most of them will still have to hit rock-bottom emotionally before they learn. The sooner they reach that point, the better off they'll be in the end.
Women don't have to take any of those paths. The wisest people are capable of learning from the mistakes of others.
This song is about how society puts the impression that all women are good for is being a girlfriend or wife. Because the girl in the song is still single and living here life, she's considered a has-been. And she also thinks of her life as over. She is thought of like that until she gets married or has a boyfriend.
Society puts the idea that if your single, your not considered independant... your just considered to be missing out. So people who don't even want a relationship go looking for one to function in society.
can you say story of my life? its basically about a woman in a rut whose life is going nowhere and finds it unlikely that her perfect man will come for her. basically. great song.
i love you can relate lily's lyrics to pretty much everything. they are clear and to the point, no bullshit. lily allen > katy perry anyday.
you can always relate to lily allen's lyrics this song is no different
I think its just Lily's observation on people like those, possibly motivated by being a bit scared of becoming like that in the future.. At the end of the video, when she's walking out all dressed up she has that "no way im becoming that" attitude
I really like this song on second listen. The video for this was really interesting.
This song makes me sad.
i think this is to show people how they need to go after what they want as soon as possible because time goes by faster than we think.
