Majestic Lyrics

a sight for sore eyes
to the blind would be awful majestic
it would be the most beautiful thing
that they ever had seen
it would cause such surprise
it would make all of their minds electric
how could anyone tell them
that some things are not what they seem?

in such disbelief
i thought i was asleep when i met you
my heart liquefied and i sighed
“oh this must be a dream”
if i forget to set the alarm
and sleep on through the dawn
don’t remind me
i’d rather be dreaming of someone
than living alone

if you’re searching the lines for a point
well, you’ve probably missed it
there was never anything there
in the first place

To me the song is clearly autobiographical...

The writer of the lyrics fell blindly in love and then things went sour.

He laments that with blind love, even though it may be obvious to those looking on, its difficult to tell those involved that things aren't what they seem.

In the end he concludes there was nothing in this blind love right from the start.

A very melancholic song - particularly if you've been through the same experience yourself.

I think perhaps the writer has placed 'there was never anything there' as a tongue in cheek joke. 'You've probably missed it' because the whole story is the hypothetical situation of a blind person seeing a sight for sore eyes.... and a sight for sore eyes would generally be something of which those with their vision would probably not want to see.

The song wins me over with its fantastic opening two lines :)

My Interpretation

"A sight for sore eyes" means someone (or something) that a person welcomes or finds relief in.

The song is about believing you're in love with someone But in reality you never really care for them But because you have been alone all your life and you need someone to fill that void So you think having that someone is the best thing that ever happened to you And you just keep lying to yourself about being in love mean while you don't treat them well and take them for granted You just keep them around to fill that void and make you feel good (in love)

But the other person truly fell in love And you were their dream come true And they rather not see that you don't love them Because they don't want to be alone either So they just rather think that you do love them and stick with you rather then to lose you.

And if you don't know what is being said here then it probably went right over your head So don't worry about it They were just words with no meaning. (to you)

My Interpretation

caerul not to let the show influence your impression of the song. ;=)

I think maybe, they chose the song for the show because of what it means.

I was hoping to find a deeper meaning, but I think it's completely meaningless and the singer openly admits it. Still a cool song.

"if you’re searching the lines for a point well, you’ve probably missed it there was never anything there in the first place"

My Interpretation

I think it's exactly what it says on the tin. Someone fell blindly in love and hopes the dreamy part will never end. It doesn't have to be sad at all.

@jenkins12 I think they meant that there wasn't a point to the relationship and the point would be love. She didn't really love him, so there wasn't any point in the first place.

loved this song on American Dad.

I know love the default go-to, and I think most people will interpret it that way, but I don't think this song is necessarily about love, though it can be - platonic, romantic, familial, etc. I think that the lyrics are enigmatic enough that everyone will find their own meaning and take-away from the song.

However, it can also be pointless if by the end it did not resonate with you at any level, "there was never anything there in the first place" because "if you’re searching the lines for a point well, you’ve probably missed it".

That last lines are really beautiful in its pseudo-contrarian nature. One of my favorite songs of all-time.

To me the song is actually sad. The firs stanza describes how anythibg veau t idul to the blund would emphasized by their condition. Even if its not the most beautiful thing and has ts flaws it would druve them wild. The lover in te song is the same. Maybe the speaker has been aloe for so long that this is his equivalent to the sught for sore eyes. Even if she isnt perfect hes happy.

The end is bitter. Despite trying to find meaning and lasting love in the relationship, however it just was not there.

Good song for stalkers. Hello, your just lonely. Not brokenhearted.

I love that song and I was delighted to see it featured on American Dad and in the story's context.

The last paragraph tells the futility of it all.

If you're searching the lines for a point, well you probably missed it. My take: Yes, had the point been important, you wouldn't have missed it.

There was never anything there in the first place. My take: You just imagined it all. It's all a grandiose illusion.

My Interpretation

He talks about how the blind will feel when seeing a sore sight, it will be majestic. In the same way, when he is a sleep (=blind) he will look at his partner (which may be a sore sight) in a majestic manner. He rather stay a sleep, so he could look at his partner majestically. And this is because he rather be dreaming of someone (someone majestic) than living alone (when he'll wake up he will obviously get rid of the "sore sight"=partner).

if i forget to set the alarm and sleep on through the dawn don’t remind me - if you see the imperfections/sore sights in my partner don't tell me.... i’d rather be dreaming of someone than living alone

So everybody has their own flaws, you can see them as sore sights, and be blind to them, or in my opinion you can deal with them. the writer has a problem of dealing with some things that are not perfect, because as he says, he will live alone if he will not be blind to these imperfections in his surroundings.
