Life Is a Problem Lyrics

Jesus won't you be my radio
Broadcast direction where I got to go
Send me your signal and I will receive
Jesus please be there to take care of me

Jesus please be my automobile
Won't get to heaven 'less God's at the wheel
Send me your chauffeur and I will get in
Jesus please drive me away from my sin

And I won't get to heaven
I won't be coming home
I will not see my mother again
'cause I'm lost and I'm gone
And this life is too long
And my willpower's never to strong

Jesus please be my aeroplane
Fly me to heaven and ever again
Will I be weak-willed, stoned, or get high
Jesus please meet me the day that i die

Jesus please be my bullet and gun
Shoot all the sinners down, every one
Kill all my demons and that will be fine
But I will be reloading all of the time

And I won't get to heaven
I won't be coming home
I will not see my mother again
'cause I'm lost and I'm gone
And this life is too long
And my willpower's never too strong

(repeat)

Here's my interpretation... he talks about wanting Jesus to tell him what to do, letting him know what he's supposed to say or accomplish throughout life in order to get to Heaven. But he feels as if Jesus is not there for him and not listening to or telling him anything, hence "I won't get to Heaven 'cause I'm lost and I'm gone". He thinks that he is a sinner, and if there is a god, he isn't going to tell him what to do in order to get to Heaven, if it's even an actual place. It's a very hopeless and sad song, but I can relate to it on a lot of levels. Really beautiful.

My Interpretation

I can deeply relate to this song. I am a Christian but have struggled with severe depression most of my life. I'm about to turn 26, and I often slip back into the sins I have slowly been pulled out of. I like the symbolism of Jesus being the radio, automobile, aeroplane, bullet and gun in our lives. Like I said I'm a Christian and I don't know if Jason pierce is or not but it definitely sounds like he struggles with God. I should have been named Israel because I definitely struggle/wrestle with God in moments of my life. Trying, but failing. But always trying. So it goes.
