It sounds like he's trying to keep himself busy so that he can forget her, but deep down he knows that he won't be able to. Possibly he's in denial.

I love the fragility of this song. Jason Pierce sings it in such a soft, sensitive way, he really sounds like he means it. Makes the song really painful, but beautiful.

i can't believe no one's put this one up yet or commented on it. it's the only song i can think of where close to everyone in the world can connect with it. its beautiful, too, you should listen to it
It's a beautiful song, and atm it sound awfully lot like an anthem over my life. Spiritualized are a great band!
I agree with daffy - I think everyone can relate.
we all get our hearts ripped in half at some point or another - and then we try to distract ourselves with other things (or substances). this song shows a person saying "yeah ... I'm really ok ... alright, maybe not." he's saying how he just can't be dwelling on this, but, you know, the heart will do what it will. great song.
Pierce really does mean it because the song (and the album) is about his break-up with Kate Radley, who was also a part of the band. She's shacked up with Richard Ashcroft now.
