The (Shipped) Gold Standard Lyrics

Sometimes i want to quit this all
and become an accountant now
but I'm no good at math
and besides the dollar is down
plant more trees on Lake Michigan before it gets cold
I gotta feel the wind chill again before I get old
I wanna scream "I Love You" from the top of my lungs
but I'm afraid that someone else will hear me

You can only blame your problems on the world for so long
before it all becomes the same old song
as soon as we hit the hospital I know we're going to leave this town
and get new passports and get, get, get, get, get out now

All the 'yes' men said "no comment"
my mouth got goin'
the wrong way
and all the calls
got to know when
the time my dad caught me a horse shoe crab
and I asked him if throwing it back into the sea
would bring our luck back
I wanna scream "I Love You" from the top of my lungs
but I'm afraid that someone else will hear me

You can only blame your problems on the world for so long
before it all becomes the same old song
as soon as we hit the hospital I know we're going to leave this town
and get new passports get out now

Tell that boy I'll leave you alone
Like a stone, I'll turn my love 'round
... both in the business of soul

I wanna scream "I Love You" from the top of my lungs
but I'm afraid that someone else will hear me
Whoa-oh
I wanna scream "I Love You" from the top of my lungs
but I'm afraid that someone else will hear me

You can only blame your problems on the world for so long
before it all becomes the same old song
as soon as we hit the hospital I know we're going to leave this town
and get new passports and get, get, get, get, get out now
get, get, get, get, get out now

Amazing song.

"I wanna scream "I Love You" from the top of my lungs but I'm afraid that someone else will hear me You can only blame your problems on the world for so long before it all becomes the same old song"

He's afraid of being in love, and he's always making excuses and writing the same old shit?

well their music changed for the better. you know pete wentz is almost 30 years old... so they just can't write music like they used to. this song is amazing though.

"Tell that boy I'll leave you alone Like a stone, I'll turn my love 'round ... both in the business of soul"

i love that part.

This song is not about Pete & Ashlee & Bronx. Pete never writes the lyrics from his perspectives, he always says that. I've been a fan of Fall Out Boy since 'Split' and still am to this day.

I personally think the song is about the band's fame now and how they miss Chicago which explains this verse: "Sometimes i want to quit this all and become an accountant now but I'm no good at math and besides the dollar is down plant more trees on Lake Michigan before it gets cold I gotta feel the wind chill again before I get old I wanna scream "I Love You" from the top of my lungs but I'm afraid that someone else will hear me."

This chorus is explaining how they can only sing about all the heartaches and pessimistic attitudes, before it gets tiring and becomes the same thing over and over again:

"You can only blame your problems on the world for so long before it all becomes the same old song as soon as we hit the hospital I know we're going to leave this town and get new passports and get, get, get, get, get out now"

i've yet to figure this part out, maybe its about how the songs they always wrote made it seem like it was for a girl about their love for her and its all over now? i know that was lame.

tell that boy i'll leave alone now like a stove i'll turn my love down supra and the prophet are both in the business of souls

I know im probably way off, but like i said Perte NEVER writes songs about himself or his expierences for the band.

so i know pete writes all the songs for the band, but parts of this one made me think of patrick stump, for example

Sometimes i want to quit this all and become an accountant now but I'm no good at math and besides the dollar is down

it was made public in a recent blender magazine that patrick had contemplated going solo and quitting the band, also heres another

All the 'yes' men said "no comment" my mouth got goin' the wrong way and all the calls got to know when the time my dad caught me a horse shoe crab and I asked him if throwing it back into the sea would bring our luck back

i know patrick has had run ins with the press and media, asking why it always has to be about pete, i dunno if its jokingly or not, so maybe it was written from the bands point of view, im no expert or nething, jus some things that stood out to me!

I love this song. My favourite off of Folie A Deux.

I think it's to do with being a celebrity, and all the pressure that the band is under - especially with Pete's scandals in the press. It's pretty much saying that he (Pete) can't do much without the media watching him, but at the same time it's also his fault for making the news anyway.

This is what I'm hearing, btw, whether it's correct or not I've got no idea.

"Tell that boy I'll leave you alone Like a stone, I'll turn my love 'round"

The next bit beats me.

Really like this song, one of the best on Folie A Deux imo. :) I agree with what everyone has said already, but I think it can be applied to everyone in ways where I'm sure a lot of us have just felt like we want to run away and start again "I know we're going to leave this town and get new passports". And so on and so forth. :)

Honestly fob fan since evening out with your girlfriend, this is them, like the new stuff is "Ugly beautiful", but this song is like a relapse of fuct lol (:

I think this song is having to do with Pete being married to Ashlee and how they were going to have their baby and then they want to get away from this celebrity life they live in. Then they just want to live on a remote island or something with their baby without having him exposed to the stressful life of rock stars.
