Then Again, Maybe You Were Right Lyrics
I spoke too soon it seems
For you made a home in my dreams while I slept
You kept running yourself through my head
Like, I won't be dead yet
I said, you don't understand
We had no control, they stole it
Love's been so unfair to me
But see, boy, that's my point
You must move on
Then felt her ghost move in me
I heard her voice call out my name
But this time it faded out, away
I'll bury it today, today
So I breathed her name out into a cold, cold room
Watched her ghost ascend the walls and then dissolve
This time I choose to let it go
This time I choose to let her go
I will not let my fear become the only world I have ever known
I know my heart, come kiss my mouth
And set me free, I have wounds to mend
And we'll be more than friends, my dear
I fear I've changed my mind again
But boy, you're too late
But boy, you're too late
My love, you're too late
Oh God, it's too late
Too late
Too late
For you made a home in my dreams while I slept
You kept running yourself through my head
Like, I won't be dead yet
I said, you don't understand
We had no control, they stole it
Love's been so unfair to me
But see, boy, that's my point

But boy, you're too late
But boy, you're too late
My love, you're too late
Oh God, it's too late
Too late
Too late

did anyone notice how "damaged goods" and "then again, maybe you were right" are connected? in the first one, he's afraid, still having trouble with letting go of his ex and she wants to be with him, but sees that there's a problem with him, and then in the latter, he's deciding to let the ex go this time, to start something new, and she says that he's too late. or am i imagining it all? :D either way i love both song so much. and the band in general - no band like it, really.
The entire album is connected. A lot of it is hidden in metaphor but it's an album about a man whose wife leaves him for another man (who is also married). There are songs about how difficult that divorce is from both sides of the relationship. Then there are also songs about the man finding a new love. But he ruins his chance because he's not over his ex yet. From Last Blues for Bloody Knuckles to the end of the album the man is learning to accept his loss. I think my favorite part is seeing the unfaithful couple's relationship slowly deteriorate as they begin to realize what they've done. It's very satisfying for anyone who's ever been cheated on.
The whole album is connected. It is an album about a break up/divorce where a guy could not let go of his insecurities and that pushed away his wife. I don't want to explain it more because I feel it would be an injustice as you need to experience it yourself.
No I definitely see the connection as well. It pretty much rules.
And also, the last line in Damaged Goods is "You were wrong", so I see the connection too.
