Forget About What I Said Lyrics
We used to tear it down
But now we just exist.
The things that I did wrong,
I bet you got a list.
Now I know how you remember
And those moments that you choose
Will define me as a traitor
Stealing everything you lose.
Forget about what I said
The lights are gone and the party's over.
Forget about what I said
Forget about what I said, I'm older now and I know you hear me.
Forget about what I said
Stay up late tonight
And turn off your phone.
Well you were selfish too
But you were never all alone.
In those ugly pink apartments with the hustlers and the kids
Mapping out some retribution
Do we have to go through this?
Forget about what I said
The lights are gone and the party's over.
Forget about what I said
Forget about what I said, I'm older now and I know you hear me.
Forget about what I said
All of the stars are wandering round tonight
We used to try them on (sometimes I hear you)
And sometimes I hear you
The galaxy sings your song
And tonight I sing along
Forget about what I said
The lights are gone and the party's over.
Forget about what I said
Forget about what I said, I'm older now and I know you hear me.

I think this song is about a couple who's been together for a while, they used to be an amazing couple but now they're just existing as a relationship. And he knows that whenever the girl thinks back on the relationship, the only memories she'll think back on are the ones where he did bad things.
But now he's older and more mature and wants her to forget all the things over the duration of the relationship that he said that was bad. He also points out that she too was cruel and would actually plot on how to hurt him with her friends, but he doesn't care about that and wants to move past it. And tonight he's supporting her and their relationship (singing along). That's all I got.
Maybe this song is directed towards Brandon's bandmates from his first band, Blush Response. They left him behind in Vegas when they went to try to make it big in LA. I think it would be natural for there to be some hard feelings on the part of those former band members because of Brandon and The Killers' success, and Brandon has said in interviews that he has/had negativity towards them for leaving him. Maybe this song is just Brandon venting those issues. As an aside, this song has a strong Interpol-like sound I think, which isn't a bad thing!
I think this song is about Brandon and his wife and how their relationship was strained while he was away touring and partying while she was left behind.
We used to tear it down But now we just exist. The things that I did wrong, I bet you got a list. Now I know how you remember And those moments that you choose Will define me as a traitor Stealing everything you lose. this is describing how they used to have fun together but now it seems that its just him thats having fun making him a traitor as he said she wouldnt get left behind but she did.
Forget about what I said The lights are gone and the party's over. Forget about what I said Forget about what I said, I'm older now and I know you hear me. Forget about what I said This is Brandon apoligizing to hear saying that he is giving up his partying lifestyle to be with her cause he grown up now and realizes it was wrong.
Stay up late tonight And turn off your phone. Well you were selfish too But you were never all alone. In those ugly pink apartments with the hustlers and the kids Mapping out some retribution Do we have to go through this? This is him on the phone to her while on tour and they are having an argument about how long he will be away he is saying she has made mistakes too and its not easy for him being all alone and away from her and having to stay is rundown apartments while trying to make it in music.
All of the stars are wandering round tonight We used to try them on (sometimes I hear you) And sometimes I hear you The galaxy sings your song And tonight I sing along This is him at a concert he is under the stars and all he can hear is her voice as the crowd sing back at him and tonight he is singing his songs for her so that they can have a better life.
I see it as the narrator singing to a girl he dated a while ago. He wants to take back everything he said and try again, asking her to forget about what he said. She has dwelled on his mistakes and the things he said wrong. He says he is older now, so he is a different person, and won't make those mistakes again. He mentions that she made mistakes too, but she had people to turn to for support, whereas when he made mistakes there was no one to comfort him, being "all alone".
Wayward, thats exactly it. The narrator and this girl use to 'tear it down' as in have a really good time together but then they must have had a break up. He wants to try it again with her, but she is too focused on his mistakes and won't look passed the past. He is different now, but she won't see that. Then again, my interpretation is probably bias because this is whats going in my life. It could be about the media and emo music.

If you live in the US you can get this and Tidal Wave on itunes with the deluxe version of day & age.
Narrator dated his friend's girlfriend after she dumped his friend.
He is telling his friend to grow up.
Crazy Brandon! :)
Where can I download this?
well, it's obvious to me its directed at the media and the paparazzi (if thats how you spell it) two years ago, brandon flowers launched an attack at all emo music, and he had a huge fight with pete wentz (frm fall out goy).
"we used to tear it down/but now we just exist" is talking bout how they used to be HUGE and now they're not as famous or well loved. (i still love you brandon)
"in those ugly pink apartments with the hustlers and the kids" pretty much sums up their target audience. lower class, lowlife photographers and reporters who right bad things about the killers.
it's also directed at pete wentz, and all emo musicians who may have had their feelings hurt by brandons attacks.
this is one of my fave songs by them 'cause i really relate to the song. my friends and i got in a fight and i said some stuff i shouldnt have.
if only i could sing this song to them...
awesome song killers i luv you xxxxxxxx
I think the girl cheated on the guy, and he wants her to forget about what he told her, like that he loved her. He's pissed. He say's "You were selfish too, but you were never all alone" implying that while he was alone, she was with someone else. He also suggests that she has a selective memory, only remembering negative things about him and using them as excuses for what she did. "Now I know how you remember, and those moments that you choose, will define me as a traitor, stealing everything ya lose."
