Old Man + The Sea Lyrics

made a promise to yourself you'd find her
and bring her back for the world to see
she is shimmering, she is beautiful
thought catching her would set you free

but she was such a long way down
she was such a long way
she was such a long way down
she was such a long way

and the line pulled tight
cutting through your hands, you were up all night
was it hallucination
or did your eyes see right
did your eyes see

oh, oh, oh, oh
oh, oh, oh, oh-oh
oh, oh, oh, oh
oh, oh, oh, oh-oh

you made a promise to yourself you'd find her
and bring her back for the world to see
she is beautiful, she is shimmering
you thought catching her would set you free

she was such a long way down
she was such a long way
she was such a long way down
she was such a long way

Hemingway

Pretty much the narrative of his novella. Fits with the whole death motif of the album.

This song's aboot a fisherman who came in counter with a Mermaid at sea. He wanted to bring her back to civilization and show off her beauty, and that having her in his possession would free him from his sadness. It goes back and tells of how he caught her on his fishing line, and tried to catch her, but then she was gone. He thinks to himself if it was a just hallucination. And he promised himself he'd go back and try to find her.
