Its about not putting your all into a relationship and not realizing what you have until its gone. My favorite song off the new album.
The beginning is amazing, my favourite bit is
“When I think about it, I know that I was never there, or even cared.”
Looking back on a relationship and seeing what you could’ve done better but realising it’s too late, and not putting your all into it

Almost as if she’s dreaming, she can almost get to him but as soon she wakes he ‘disappears.’

This one is about realizing that you held back and hoping that it's not too late to make things right again.She has this clarity but sadly he's gone. She finally see's what he needed and she feels all of his love and she just waits. The line where she says, 'my heart stays faithful' is a real bittersweet line.

yea these lyrics are wrong
it says:

I'm amazed about how beautifully she does such low notes ... Perfect for the total feeling of this song, knowing maybe you missed out your chances with someone that could have been the one. Hurts. One of my favorites of this incredibly good double disc. I'm torn deciding which I like better but I think in the end the "real" Beyonce in the soft tracks wins me over.
Beyonce's voice is a true gift to my ears.
i think this song is about a lost love and how she is telling her self that she doesn't care but she does and he always disappers from her .its pretty sad song kinda reminds me of new moon a bit don't bit my head:)

I think this song is about having someone in your life who was wonderful and perfect for you but you didn't realize it until it was too late and he was already gone. The person realizes what they let slip away and think back to how they should've done so many things differently but now it's too late because he's disappeared

I actually have a different interpretation to this song, based on my own experience.
I think it's about a loving relationship that was doomed to end, though she wants to hold to it. Now they are broken up, she still feels attached to him though she knows they are over. I think regardless if you know the relationship was going to end, you still are drawn to that person regardless, especially if you loved them very deeply.
I think in the first verse, she's questioning herself and wondering about him though they are clearly over.
Then the pre-chorus, it's talking about how she's trying to be in denial about her feelings, thinking it will hurt her less, when in all actuality, it hurts more. She still feels aspects of him in her life, regardless of the fact that he's gone.
Then the chorus, but then he "disappears" because she goes back to reality and realizes it over.
Second verse, she is thinking about the "what-ifs" in the relationship, had they worked out.
Bridge, she looks back as to realizing how their relationship was doomed. He was ready to move on, but she isn't. But she realizes now, she has to move on now.
