Remember those walls I built
Well, baby, they're tumbling down
And they didn't even put up a fight
They didn't even make a sound
I found a way to let you in
But I never really had a doubt
Standing in the light of your halo
I got my angel now
It's like I've been awakened
Every rule I had you breaking
It's the risk that I'm taking
I ain't never gonna shut you out
Everywhere I'm looking now
I'm surrounded by your embrace
Baby, I can see your halo
You know you're my saving grace
You're everything I need and more
It's written all over your face
Baby, I can feel your halo
Pray it won't fade away
I can feel your halo (halo) halo
I can see your halo (halo) halo
I can feel your halo (halo) halo
I can see your halo (halo) halo
Hit me like a ray of sun
Burning through my darkest night
You're the only one that I want
Think I'm addicted to your light
I swore I'd never fall again
But this don't even feel like falling
Gravity can't begin
To pull me back to the ground again
Feels like I've been awakened
Every rule I had you breaking
The risk that I'm taking
I'm never gonna shut you out
Everywhere I'm looking now
I'm surrounded by your embrace
Baby, I can see your halo
You know you're my saving grace
You're everything I need and more
It's written all over your face
Baby, I can feel your halo

Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve.
The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future.
Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere"
The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988.
"'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it."
"There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.
This song is very easy to interpret:
It's not about God - although I would've loved it to be about Him - and if it relates to you in that way, then take it as such.
This is a girl (or guy) who has been hurt enough to build walls around him/her. She/he doesn't trust her relationships, so when this person meets this "someone" - she/he is very "cautious" at first.
This person even tries to "test" this person to see if they are for real.
Its like Ive been awakened Every rule I had you breakin Its the risk that im takin
You know how sometimes people do that "game" to test others to see if they're really sincere. Trust issue. Perhaps Beyonce's character pushed this guy over the edge to see if he would still be committed? Sometimes that's risky - because you don't know if they'll stay committed, but she tested him because she simply had to know for sure. It's a foolish way to be secure, but that's what it meant.
However, this person came to some point in his/her life and they are convince that this special "someone" is indeed the real thing! And the "halo" revelation is that she finally sees that he's a good man! Thus, in the first verse, all her guard is let down without a fight, she trust him.
So with that understanding, I think the rest is self explanatory. :)
I accidentally crossed paths with a previous girl friend. She wanted to change our dating status to friends back then. As a teenager I could not handle that. So I left, put up walls around my heart. And began to destroy my life. 20yrs later after both sharing our true feelings and forgiving each other...I cried for 3 weeks everyday not knowing why...we are each married and both have children...She wanted me to let it all out and I did. During these weeks all my sins stopped. She was always perfect in my eyes. Anything she says now or requests, I do it because she only has good intentions and I see it in her. I now feel like Jesus is living within me because of this. I think Jesus used her to get into my heart. She is either an angel or my true love. We will always be friends now. Now I can begin my life. She said this song Halo is about me. I don't expect her to share her portion of her feelings with me, she's married now.
Thats is soo true.. This is one of my favorite songs ever. She did a better job than leona lewis would have.
@songburdie Personally being a reformed atheist I would hate it being about "god" or anything religious, but the reference about halo as she describes it here isn't a halo in the way religious people think. It's in no way a reference to a golden ring hovering above anyone's head, its a reference to the nature of a person or to describe it in a different way, about the type of energy a person has.

I generally don't listen to beyonce at all as she has to much "girly" (in the lack of a better word) music for my taste. I prefer metal and that genre and more upbeat songs. However I will say that this song does represent what I hope to be to someone someday. I thought I was recently and got both spirit and heart utterly crushed to the point that I had to seek help.
That was some weeks ago now, and these days I am of a different opinion. She gave up on me, and while I will give her a second chance if she wants it, I won't even think about her otherwise for the very reason that I know what I want and if she just wants to be friends, well then that isn't going to work for me. I know that I will always want more if we have that so she has to make up her mind what she wants.
@songburdie i have listened to this so many times and came to the same outcome as you. your perspective on this is perfect!
I'm not a fan of Beyonce, I'm more into rock-n-roll, but this song is without question the best song on the album. It has been a long time since a song has moved me, and this one surely did it. It's obvious what the song is about and it should without a doubt be the next single. A+

@platniumstatus I think you're talking about the song "Hello" by Adele.
I think the song is about a girl who’s been hurt by someone that she once cared. In order to avoid the risk of getting hurt again, she built walls around her.
Some time later a guy comes into her life. She finds it hard to stay behind those walls. It even happens so naturally that she couldn't even hide her feelings. Finally, she had the courage to step out of her comfort zone And take the risk to let him into her life. Cause she knows that he is worth of taking the risk.
She feels like this is something new that she's never had before. Cause this guy embraces her and gives her so much piece and comfort Just like what she’s been waiting for. She is thankful God and praying him for making this happened.
The words are spilled out beautifully. Been there, done that. Instead of hiding behind those walls, We have to bring them down to the ground to welcome new people into our lives. That’s a great way of helping ourselves to heal our bruises. We have to let go of our past. New day will bring new people if you learn to let our guard down
Nelly 79, you described it beautifully!
I interpret this song as a baby....being a mother of a little girl the first time i heard this song it immediately reminded me of her. esp this part:
"Everywhere Im lookin now Im surrounded by your embrace Baby I can see your Halo You know youre my saving grace Youre everything I need and more"
since no one yet has said it was about a child, i thought i'd comment on what i think it's about. i love this song. and who knows, maybe beyonce is preggo :))))
hisbarbiegirl, I totally agree.

I am about have our first baby any day now. And the first time I heard this all I could think about was our little guy on the way. I love it. Every time I hear it, I feel like it's meant for him, to tell him how I feel, how much I love him. Simply beautiful!
this song is definitly about halo 3. it reminds me of when master chief and the arbiter first made contact. at first, they were like hating on each other. but now, they have this special connection. deep, deep connection CTS REP
Lmfao.
LOLOL Didn't know Beyonce was a Halo fan :-p
lol silly
I'm pretty sure this song is about a lover that died. The "walls" that she sings of in the first verse, they had been built in order to make the whole situation of living without her partner as easily as possible... in denial, perhaps. But then she allows the walls to fall down, and she's found a way of letting him in again "I aint never gonna shut you out". She is now able to grieve, "I can see your halo". Read it again from this perspective, it's heartbreaking :(
Omg i never thought of it like that at all, but i think you could be right. It is indeed heartbreaking x
Lover...or loved one. I'm glad someone gave this interpretation.

I heard this song for the first time after my baby niece died, and every single lyric fit perfectly how I felt at the time. When she first died, I wasn't letting myself feel the pain of losing her, but I finally just let it all come crashing down and I missed her so much. I let her in. But now that I was letting myself feel the pain, I also felt her in everything beautiful that I saw. Her "halo" so to speak, I guess. I felt her presence everywhere, especially in the sunset. It's actually pretty freaky how closely the lyrics fit to what was going on then, and how I feel now. So yeah, it could be about someone who had a "Godly" impact on her life, but I think it could also be interpreted as feeling a passed loved one's presence. Letting the song have that interpretation for me is actually helping me cope with the pain.
What Sammylouk said is also pretty spot-on as far as what I got from the song. "I ain't never gonna shut you out" is after realizing that letting in the passed loved one is a better feeling than shutting them out. Kind of apologetic, but also a realization.
@sammylouk This is how I listen to it. my experience i had walls up, then my boyfriend pulled my walls down, i let me guard down, and then he was suddenly gone from this world. I hear the Halo, as he is my angel, i can feel him in the sun, he keeps me strong and even though i have new walls from my tragedy his Halo and love helps me keep them not as high.
i think this song is about BOTH god and a lover, she shielded herself off but god had blessed her with an angel (her lover- hence the halo part) who she can trust and finally let them in - and so letting in Gods embrace (god sent him to her) .....so basically i see it as getting a blessing from god, like an angel and being thankful because they were in the dark before
i agree with you
i lyk dis song itz lyk they been havin a gud relesionship and things lyk dat and she starting to see a real relesionship which IZ

SEEING HIS/HER HALOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I AGRRE TO CUZ ITZ TRUE U TALKING
This song is about a video game called HALO. You can play it on the Xbox and PC.
Talk about people interpreting songs all over the place:
The lyrics to Halo by Beyonce explain how much of an impact a man has made on her life. She has been hurt by being in love before, and she has built up walls around her and made up rules for her to follow to prevent her from experiencing pain again. However, she met a person that quickly tore down the walls and let himself in, and she is realizing that she needed to protect herself from letting the wrong person in. The right person would not cause her such pain.
This man is her
saving grace'', and she is referring to him as her angel. She is able to feel his presence by his
halo'', and she is hoping that he is not too good to be true. He has allowed her to break free from her own insecurities, and she now knows that their life will defy even gravity. He has given her a new chance at life, and shefeels like I've been awakened'', and she is willing to take the risk of never shutting him out. The light from his
halo'' follows her, and everywhere she is, she is surrounded by his embrace.i think this song describes a relationship wherein her other half passed away...
and can still feel his presence...just a thought
Im surrounded by your embrace Baby I can see your Halo You know youre my saving grace Youre everything I need and more Its written all over your face Baby I can feel your Halo Pray it wont fade away
