A Crippling Blow Lyrics

Here in my house
Time is sweet
I hear the children playing in the street
Out with the hot winds blowing in the breeze

Ah-ah-ah

I don't need time, I don't need time
No, I can get by myself
I don't need time, I don't know why
The summer wind did not tell

I scrambled all night and I know that I
Will never be calm and well
But I can get by in the meantime
By myself

Woo!

In the real World
Probable to say
Sleeping in, a lazy afternoon
A danger to the doubters, they assume

I don't need time, I don't need time
No, I can get by myself
I don't need time, I don't know why
The summer wind did not tell

I scrambled all night and I know that I
Will never be calm and well
But I can get by in the meantime
By myself

Deal me a crippling blow
Steal me from under my clothes

I don't need time, I don't need time
No, I can get by myself
I don't need time, I don't know why
The summer wind did not tell

I scrambled all night and I know that I
Will never be calm and well
But I can get by in the meantime
By myself

Well, I can get by in the meantime by myself

This is so deserving to be a part of the album, rather than a b-side!

Lame album? Glad you corrected yourself. Losing Touch, Human, Spaceman, Joy Ride, Neon Tiger and A Crippling Blow, all awesome songs. I rate it, just quietly.

I think this song is all about the BS that gets written about the band, and how it effects them personally.

I think this is definitely one of the best songs off Day & Age even if it is a b-side

I've been listening to this song lately, and while I can't interpret the lyrics in their entirety, I'll put it to you this way: recently I've had some trouble at work. My bosses are blowing something minor completely out of proportion, and now I have lawyers and union reps on my side fighting to get my job back. This whole process could take a year.

My point is that when I listen to this song, I think of my situation: They dealt me a crippling blow, but I can get by in the meantime by myself. I won't be calm (this is my reputation and career we're talking about), but I'll get by.

I don't know if that's what they were going for, but that's what I hear.

My Interpretation

Oh, and I think that by repeating, "I can get by in the meantime by myself," he's telling you how much he's hurting. He's trying to convince himself that he'll be OK. Otherwise, why would he keep repeating that phrase?

I think this song is about going through a hard time, like maybe getting fired from a good job or something? but its also about the main guy being stubborn (I can get by myself) He's saying deal me a crippling blow, like saying throw all that you got at me, I can take it, and I don't need anyone to help me. Ok, My interpretation was kinda jumbled, lemme start again

Here in my house Time is sweet I hear the children playing in the street Out with the hot winds blowing in the breeze

Ah-ah-ah here he is saying life is good, he enjoys how its going

He's a real winner Probable to say Sleeping in, a lazy afternoon A danger to the doubters, they assume

I'm a bit confused in this bit but what I can guess is his job just got given to a guy that is very lazy but everyone thinks he is a great guy (a real winner) and they think that he will make all the doubters think that he is great too

I scrambled online and I know that I Will never be calm and well But I can get by in the meantime By myself

I actually believe that the word is online in this bit and I can contibute that to my interpritation aswell. I think this part is him going onto the internet and trying to look up a new job, but this new job will never be as good as his old one but at least it will help him get by, he can survive on a smaller income.

Deal me a crippling blow Steal me from under my clothes

And this part is just his saying FINE! TAKE ME AWAY FROM MY JOB! TAKE AWAY MY LIFE NECESSITIES!

And then the chorus is just saying don't help me, I'm fine and very very stubbourn.

Not 100% sure but its an idea, someone can expand on it for me, thoughts people?

ALso gotta say, the begining guitar riff on this song, is AMAZING!

Thankyou :D I'm a very DnM person ;) thats why The Killers are my fave band, they are so deep and soulfull, especially Brandon Flowers <--- :D :D :D xxx

All I can hear is "I scrambled online" too. Although I do tend to agree with the interpretation of this song, being about doing things of your own accord.
