That Lucky Old Sun Lyrics
Up in the morning,
out on the job,
work like the devil for my pay.
Lucky old sun,
ain't got nothing to do
but roll around heaven all day.
Fuss with my woman,
toil for my kids.
I sweat till I'm wrinkled and grey.
But that luck old sun,
ain't got nothin to do
but roll around heaven all day
Dear Lord above,
can't you see I'm cryin?
Tears are in my eyes.
Send down a cloud with a silver lining.
Take me to paradise.
Show me that river,
lead me across.
And take all my troubles away.
Like the lucky old sun,
I'll have nothing to do.
But roll around in heaven all day.
Dear Lord above,
can't you see I'm cryin?
Tears are in my eyes.
Send down a cloud with a silver lining.
Take me to paradise.
Show me that river,
lead me across.
And take all my troubles away.
Like the lucky old sun,
I'll have nothing to do.
But roll around in heaven all day.
out on the job,
work like the devil for my pay.
ain't got nothing to do
but roll around heaven all day.
toil for my kids.
I sweat till I'm wrinkled and grey.
ain't got nothin to do
but roll around heaven all day
can't you see I'm cryin?
Tears are in my eyes.
Send down a cloud with a silver lining.
Take me to paradise.
Show me that river,
lead me across.
And take all my troubles away.
Like the lucky old sun,
I'll have nothing to do.
But roll around in heaven all day.
can't you see I'm cryin?
Tears are in my eyes.
Send down a cloud with a silver lining.
Take me to paradise.
Show me that river,
lead me across.
And take all my troubles away.
Like the lucky old sun,
I'll have nothing to do.
But roll around in heaven all day.

For me this song has deep personal meaning.
My grandfather recently passed after years and years of fighting emphysema. Five years ago the doctors gave him six months to live, and he fought on until two months ago when my grandmother passed away. To me this song represents him pleading with God to take him to Heaven, and leave his troubles here on earth. I think my grandfather made his peace with death and was ready to meet his Creator.
It's a beautifully peaceful song, with personal deep meaning.
