Lost+ (feat. Jay-Z) Lyrics

Just because I'm losing
Doesn't mean I'm lost!
Doesn't mean I'll stop
Doesn't mean I'm across

Just because I'm hurting
Doesn't mean I'm hurt
Doesn't mean I don't get what I deserved
No better and no worse

I just got lost
Every river that I tried to cross
Every door I ever tried was locked
Oh and I'm just waiting until the shine wears off

You might be a big fish
In a little pond
Doesn't mean you've won
Because along may come
A bigger one

And you'll be lost
Every river that you tried to cross
Every gun you ever held went off
Oh and I'm just waiting until the firing stopped
Oh and I'm just waiting until the shine wears off

[Jay-Z]
Aha, I gotcha, uh...
With the same sword they knight you, they gon' good night you with
Shit, that's only half if they like you
That ain't even the half what they might do
Don't believe me, ask Michael
See Martin, see Malcolm
See Biggie, see Pac, see success and its outcome
See Jesus, see Judas
See Caesar, see Brutus, see success is like suicide
Suicide, it's a suicide
If you succeed, prepare to be crucified
Media meddles, niggaz sue you, you settle
Every step you take, they remind you you're ghetto
So it's tough being Bobby Brown
To be Bobby then, you have to be Bobby now
And the question is, "Is to have had and lost
Better than not having at all?"
Because I'm...

Oh and I'm just waiting until the shine wears off
Oh and I'm just waiting until the shine wears off

Jay-Z adds nothing but pure win to top off this great song. His verse is pretty obvious if you think about it.. Just because you're successful doesn't mean you won't fall. All of those named fell hard.

"With the same sword they knight you, they gon' good night you with" To me that means the same way or people that made you famous will be your demise. perfect example being "Don't believe me, ask Michael" Media made him famous and destroyed him. (RIP)

"see success is like suicide If you succeed, prepare to be crucified" Again self explanatory.

so what it all comes down to is. "Is to have had and lost Better than not having at all?"

Parablade, I disagree. Even with it being acceptable as an opinion. The things Jay-Z says are 110% true in a way that hardly anyone thinks. He clearly makes you see the situation through his eyes in a light that many people most likely do not see. In that is art, and he did well as an artist. I'm a fan of rap and I'm a fan of rock. As someone who has 0 discrimination in genres and sees music as an art and nothing else, I can say with no cloud of judgment his verse is very commendable.

I do not know if it's some sort of territorial pride, ignorance, or just a lack of common respect that blinds you. Either way, it's not my loss. You may disagree if you want, but I'm sure that I'm right indubitably. Ignorance is bliss and you are entitled to your opinion. And I'm entitled to tell you you're wrong.

I'm sorry Bell, I disagree with you. Either way it's still an opinion, just because you may see the art of the rap other may not. But however, Honestly I think that the rap is catchy and has a great use of Oximorons, but the issue to me is that to me it feels somewhat out of place. It doesn't fit in with the theme or meaning that Coldplay is trying to give with this song. I think this verse with Jay-Z would fit greatly into one of his original works, with his style and type of music, this song...

" It doesn't fit in with the theme or meaning that Coldplay is trying to give with this song."

that's speculation. the lyrics seem to fit with the theme to me. and probably, you know, the guys in the band

This post is laughable. The only ignorance here is you trying to pass off your ridiculous opinions as undisputable facts. Unfortunately for you all art is subjective, there is no definitive consensus on what is "good" and what is "bad" art. Your confrontational attitude is pointless and uncalled for, saying I am "ignorant" or have a "lack of respect" simply because I don't agree with you is absurd. Clearly it is you who has a lack of respect for verbally assaulting anyone who doesn't share your narrow-minded views on artistic expression.

In my opinion, this version with Jay-Z makes the song meaning much clearer. To me, it's about a person with huge success and fame [maybe even Chris himself haha], but they don't want to fall, or they just don't want it to change them. The line "I'm just waiting till the shine wears off" is a metaphor; he just wants to perform without all the money and fame, because that's not REAL, it's just temporary.

See Biggie, see Pac, see success and its outcome See Jesus, see Judas See Caesar, see Brutus, see success is like suicide.

I think that speaks for itself. Great song (: & I think Jay-Z is a great addition.

My Interpretation

i love the climax of jay's verse with the guitars wailing as he pays homage to the gravediggaz "suicide, it's a suicide" -- his name drops make me shiver how well they fit the theme and how well they rhyme. And the build-up to Jay's verse with "C. martin" just killin it - classic, enough said.

Michael = Michael Jackson... complete prediction of his death right there!!

With the same sword they knight you, they gone goodnight with it.

"See Martin".... C. Martin

INTERESTING HEY

anyway i wish there was more of Jay-Z in this his rapping is really good. I think Coldplay were afraid of aggravating their fanbase so they didnt go balls out with the hiphop and used him for only one verse.

P.S guys i know the Martin he is referring to is Martin Luther King but i think its a BRILLIANT double entandre

they both played this summer at the Pemberton Festival. I wonder if that's where they hooked up for this song!?

not sure if that's where they hooked up for this, but you know Chris Martin was on Jay-Z's Kingdom Come album, right?

Bell3018 - Everyone has different taste, you might think Jay-Z's verse is "poweful" and others might feel it's weak. At the end of the day they're all opinions and yours is no more correct than the guy who said this version of the song is terrible. For the record I also feel this version of the song is terrible, I feel that Jay-Z's verse was boring and added nothing to the song. You can disagree and that is fine but it doesn't mean you are "right" and I am "wrong", they are all just opinions.

I actually like this version of the song better. My one gripe might be how Jay-Z starts off, but it's still really good.

You know, my first thought on Martin was Martin Luther, not MLK.
