Not Allowed Lyrics

Here we go
I'll smile for you now 'cause you're sad
but I'm not allowed to be sad
Here we go
I'll make a joke for you now, make you smile
but I'm not allowed to be sad

Turn away fallen on the inside from your sky
Felt no pain and didn't ever want to wonder why

Here we go
I'll burn for you now cause your're mine
and you're not allowed to feel nothing
Careful I may fall apart for you now, make you cry
But I'm not allowed to be sad

Turn away fallen on the inside from your sky
Felt no pain and didn't ever want to wonder why?

Turn away fallen on the inside from your sky
Felt no pain and didn't ever want to wonder why?

I FINALLY GET IT. so basically, this significant other told this other person that they aren't allowed to be sad. so when he says "I'll smile for you now 'cause you're sad but I'm not allowed to be sad" ... hes saying that whenever he sees this other person sad, it makes him sad because he loves her so much... but he's not allowed to be sad, get it?! :D im pretty sure thats it.

and I feel like 'Turn away fallen on the inside from your sky' is showing this person is acting differently; irregular.

I think it's: Here you go I'll smile for you now, 'Cause you're sad but I'm not allowed to be sad Here we go I'll make a joke for you now, make you smile But I'm not allowed to be sad

And: Felt no pain and didn't ever want to wonder why.

This song is about bottling your emotion, but not really showing it because you can't. Almost like an emotion-less person.

I absolute love this song..can't figure out what it's about though. I don't think it's just about bottling up emotions (although maybe that's part of it?). "Turn away fallen on the inside from your sky".. cool lyrics.. but what the heck? I think it might be about having to be the stronger person for someone who is hurting, but.. not sure..

To me it sounds like a guy is trying to keep their friend from getting hurt.

"I'll smile for you now cause you're sad and I'm not allowed to be sad" It's like he's trying to cheer up the sad friend and just be there for them.

"I'll burn for you now cause you're mine and you're not allowed to feel nothing" Here it seems like sad friend may have accidently broke the law or something and the happy friend takes the punishment for the sad friend.

That's what it sounds like to me.

To me, this song is about someone who gives everything of themselves for their friend/lover/whatever. To make it easier, I'll put in the view of a gf/bf relationship. When the girl is sad, the guy will do anything to make her happy, he will smile for her, be strong for her. He won't allow himself to be sad, even if he is, for her sake. He might fall apart, he might burn, but thats okay, as long as she is happy.

Then she stopped loving him,he has 'fallen from her sky', but he has forgotten how to live outside her, forgotten how to feel, and he doesn't know what it means. Doesn't want to think about it, because the answer is not one he wants to hear

My Interpretation
Cover art for Not Allowed lyrics by Copeland

This is a song about a man who gives nothing but his undivided attention to his friend/lover who puts everyone's feelings first other than his own. An over thinker but someone who's lost himself in the relationship but the only way it could work is if he's emotionally strong which seems one sided from my perspective. I think it's about two people who truly are lost at a cross point in where one side seems to be reciprocating more than the other due to personal reasons but nonetheless a relationship that will have flaws just like any other. Expectations are at a all time high and unrealistic when only one partner is receiving more than they should which isn't necessarily a bad thing but it's all putting the work together. I could be overspeculating
