Mr. Sandman showing his beam
When he walks into the room the walls lean in to listen
Surfed out brain waves flick back and forth
Like old headlights sniffing model glue again
Head like a steel trap
Wish I didn't, I didn't, I didn't
I didn't, I didn't, I didn't, I didn't
I don't just want to be a footnote
In someone else's happiness
Does your husband know the way
That the sunshine gleams from your wedding band?
Does he know the way? Does he know the way
Of the crickets that would convince me to call it a night?
I will never end up like him
Behind my back I already am
Keep a calendar, this way you will always know
The last time you came through
Oh, darling, I know what you're going through
The last time you came through
Oh, darling
Oh, darling
Oh, darling
Tempest in a teacup, get unique
Peroxide princes shine like shark teeth
It's a sign (it's a sign)
It's a sign (it's a sign)
It's a sign, what if you peaked early?
And does your husband know the way
That the sunshine gleams from your wedding band?
Does he know the way? Does he know the way
Of the crickets that would convince me to call it a night?
Does he? Does he know the way I worship our love?
Does your husband know the way
That the sunshine gleams from your wedding band?
But I will never end up like him
Behind my back I already am
Keep a calendar, this way you will always know
The last time you came through
Oh, darling, I know what you're going through
The last time you came through
Oh, darling
Oh, darling
Oh, darling
Oh, does your husband know?
Does your husband know?
Does your husband know?
Does he know? Does he know? does he know? Oh, oh, oh
But I will never end up like him
Behind my back I already am
Keep a calendar, this way you will always know

I couldn't really figure out a meaning for this song, it was hard to pick out. When I saw them in concert, Pete said his meaning, and that was like five months ago. I still don't understand how that is intended. He said that it's about when some stranger walks into the room and something about them, you are obsessed. You become completely obsessed with this person.
I don't understand how he gets that, but.. that's all I've got for this.
Thanks for clearing that up for me i guess haha he also said the summary of the song was: "you're not who loves you, you are who you love". so i listened and listened and listened to the song and finally dissected it lol. First of all, the title "Head first slide into cooperstown on a bad bet." That came from the baseball player Pete Rose and his gambling... idk much about that yet but i'll read about it. The whole song is about a man who has a thing for a woman who is married but her husband doesn't really acknowledge their marriage. Yes, that's right people... it's not about Pete wentz or the band. This whole cd is not supposed to be autobiographical is what they said (except for i don't care.) Now for the lyrics... When he says "Head like a steel trap, wish I didn't, I didn't, I didn't, I didn't, I didn't, I didn't, I didn't" a steel trap is hard to get away from, right? so he's talking about the guy who's experiencing a lot of regrets hence the "wish i didn't etc." "I don't just want to be a footnote in someone else's happiness" means that the person just doesn't want to correct the problem, he wants to be in a relationship with the woman. "does your husband know the way that the sunshine gleams from your wedding band?" That's the guy asking her basically if her husband acknowledges his relationship with his wife (which he doesn't.) "Does he know the way, does he know the way of the crickets that would convince me to call it a night?" means that at night time, the only thing putting him to sleep is the crickets because it's so quiet in his house because he's lonely.
