Take Off Your Colours Lyrics

Those eyes you bought have gone to my head
But they wont take you to my bed.
You talk a good game, but girl you've been played.
Look at this shade you choose to play.
The town talk keep me up to date, we will never be the same.
This a war, this is my heart, these are the strings you'll pull.
These are the stakes, they have been raised, it's your call.
Too much has changed, I hate this place but I don't want to leave it this way.

So let's get it straight, without a thought I'll take it away.
That's the price you pay for having luck in the first place.
Call it what you want, I've spent to long under your thumb and now the clouds have had their say.

I'll make a bet that we dont leave this place as friends.
Are you comfortable, are you comfortable with this?
You play the lady, I'll play the gent, we will call it time well spent.
But I've been lying, and your going to hate me for this.

This is the storm, so let it pour, and take over your shores.
Here comes the rain I'll have my day it's so sore.
Let it be heard, lessons were learnt and it will never hurt like this again.

Take off you colours, who are you wearing them for?
Tick off your lovers, all respect was left at the door.
I had a front row seat to you on your knees, it was everything i hoped it be.

He's pretty damn good, no? Seriously! But I guess this is to do with hooking up with someone just for sex?

Yeah, i agree with the she cheated on him thing and shes begging for him back and hes all like 'fkkk off'. Haha, but the "front row seat to you on your knees" Maybe....he walked in on her and some dude while she was 'on her knees' ? Just my opinion.

My Opinion

Personally, I think it's talking about a girl who got around, and tried to keep him from knowing about it. When he finds out she is basically on her knees to him, sexually and emotionally. She disappointed him and he can't get over that, but he is still willing to use her for sexual satisfaction because hell... she's used to being played right?

this is a bit of an essay. but if you care to read, i love you. xD

I think this is about a guy who seriously loved a girl and she let him down. I don't think its purely just cheating. The whole song is just like a slap in the face to her. And I think it's about him exposing her to everyone for them to see how horrible she is.

In the first verse it's pretty clear that the song is meant to be offensive to the girl: "you've been played" is like saying "i dont really like you" which contradicts what he says with "this is a war, this is a heart, these are the strings you pull" indicating that the girl still has somewhat of a hold on him. I took this to be like a defensive statement? like when you get hurt and you pretend that it never meant a thing when it actually did?

He feels that he has to get away from her, and be free: "i've spent too long under your thumb"

In "I'll make a bet that we dont leave this place as friends. Are you comfortable, are you comfortable with this?" i get the impression that he is making a public display of her, and arguing infront of people? "this place" has connotations of not caring about the location. "you're going to hate me for this" makes me think that he is reffering to him exposing her for what she is infront of everyone.

"i've been lying" may refer back to the first verse "you've been played" and the need to again point out that really he "doesn't care". (but we all know he does"

"This is the storm, so let it pour, and take over your shores. Here comes the rain I'll have my day it's so sore. Let it be heard, lessons were learnt and it will never hurt like this again." refers to the storm of emptions inside him, and how he will rise out of it, then detach himself from girls to become untouchable, and never be hurt by a girl again.

"I had a front row seat to you on your knees, it was everything I'd hope it be" sounds like she is begging him to take her back. But, I think this is meant in a sexual context, and is like rubbing it in her face.

And the further "are you comfortable" is a retorical and sarcastic question, because she is obviously embarrassed that he is exposing her for everyone to see.

Again, this was long. but if you made it thus far, thank you :) <333333

love this song....kind of confusing about the whole meaning, at least to me.

my best guess is two people who broke up (she cheated?) and he's saying he's angry at her for lying and being basically a whore and that they're ending things on bad terms.

It's definitely about a break up. When he sings "I had a front row seat to you on your knees, it was everything i hoped it be," it's clear she's begging for him to take her back.

Call it what you want, I've spent to long under your thumb and now the clouds have had their say: Maybe it means there's no getting out of this storm you've made and you're not going to have me whipped anymore, I'm tired of the games? Because then he later comes back and says, "This is the storm, so let it pour, and take over your shores. Here comes the rain I'll have my day it's so sore." Meaning I'll have my day when I'm happy again? I just need time to get over it so pretty much he's saying eff off? Especially when he says, "We won't leave this place as friends."

But I don't know. Just my thoughts. Great, great band.

When he sings "I had a front row seat to you on your knees, it was everything i hoped it be" am i the only person who takes this as something a bit dirtier? ;)

"I had a front row seat to you on your knees, it was everything i hoped it be" i thought it meant something dirtier aswel, i didnt even think of the begging thing, i wonder which it was supposed to mean.

I think it's about a girl who basically goes about playing guys but then the girl gets played herself

"Take off your colours, who are you wearing them for? Tick off your lovers, all respect was left at the door. I had a front row seat to you on your knees, it was everything i hoped it be."

That bits basically describing how she got played. and yeah i think that its meant to be dirty.

Not sure if that meanings right but thats just what i think
