I think this song is about self-realization and having enough life experience/romantic relationships to be aware that the first and most important love is with thy self.

It's about the interim period between relationships when you realize you're ready for a new one but due to maturity don't want to pursue anything artificial.

The last verse should read "Oh solitude, it's so sublime/To swing alone, the choice is mine/To wait while others play/To let my lover wait". This makes me think the song is about saving yourself for the person you love... not necessarily saving your virginity or whatever, but not slutting around while you're apart.

I interpretate this song as she's dated around and she's found that special someone, but she let them go, now she's trying to re-connect. And now she's not dating around anymore [[hence her dancing alone]] because she knows mr. right will come.

I think it's about waiting for the right person and not just dating whoever for the sake of it in the meantime. Beautiful song, love it.
