Lose Control Lyrics
I cast no shadow on the grave
No one knows my name
I ride the wind of seven seas
Gone before the rain
I am both friend and enemy
An object of disdain
Living it up in the down and out
I roll with the foxes and hunt with the hounds
Yeah, I feel it in my bones
Like a rolling stone
An enemy unknown
I lose control
I feel it in my bones
Like a rolling stone
You'll never find me on the high ground
I lose control
I draw disaster from the fane
Like fire in the sky
I am the bandage and the bane
The furor of the fires
I stand alone when none remain
A creature of the night
I'll cut you in, but there's no way out
I roll with the foxes and hunt with the hounds
Yeah, I feel it in my bones
Like a rolling stone
An enemy unknown
I lose control
I feel it in my bones
Like a rolling stone
You'll never find me on the high ground
I lose control
I am the death that makes your life seem good
I am the pain that brings you close to God
I am the prophet warning of the flood
I am the answer you misunderstood
I am the answer that you misunderstand
I do the evil that an honest man can't
I live in shadows that the enemy casts
I have no future and I have no past
Living in the down and out
I'm living it up in the down and out
I roll with the foxes and hunt with the hounds
I'll cut you in, but there's no way out
But get on your feet when you here that sound
Yeah, I feel it in my bones
Like a rolling stone
An enemy unknown
I lose control
I feel it in my bones
Like a rolling stone
You'll never find me on the high ground
I lose control

I think this is from the perspective of the rotten experiences in life where people say "why did this person die? Or why did this have to happen? God, that was rotten of you to let my friend die of cancer." Here, House of Heroes explains that these bad experiences may be painful and awful but they are good at the same time because people would not learn the lessons they needed to learn before them. Not to say that God does that to anyone on purpose. But, when these things happen, God is always there to use it to make the person stronger. The lines: "I am the death that makes your life seem good I am the pain that brings you close to God I am the prophet warning of the flood I am the answer you misunderstood
I am the answer that you misunderstand I do the evil that an honest man can't I live in shadows that the enemy casts I have no future and I have no past"
Really captures that essence. I think House of Heroes personified the bad experiences to be like someone who goes around under the disguise of being evil and bad but doing good by bring one closer to God or making your life seem good. It is weird, yet brilliant and I truly believe that House of Heroes really hit the spot!
I'm pretty sure it's "I run with the foxes..." not roll. This song is amazing.
actually i've listened to it like four or five times and can't tell... it would make sense to be run rather than roll, but it could be either. But good observation. And you're right, this song is amazing! :)

any ways, when I first heard this song I thought it was talking about the Devil, and then it says "I am the prophet, warning of the flood" and it made me believe that is not the case here. I think the song might be talking about just plain sin also, but I still do not understand "I am the prophet, warning of the flood". It is a hard song to understand, and I know that it is one of those, but it is sure an amazing song!...

I'm not entirely sure, but I THINK this song is supposed to be about SIN. i.e. "I am the answer that you misunderstand I do the evil that an honest man can't I live in shadows that the enemy casts I have no future and I have no past" as for "run with the foxes and hunt with the hounds', that's talking about how sin makes you both the victim and the enemy.
I asked Tim Skipper (the lead singer) at a show what it was about and he said that they were trying to write a song to get in the Incredible Hulk soundtrack. He wasn't joking. So there you go.

I've always thought of this song as being about Christians who haven't completely submitted to God. Like the term 'riding the fence'. They have one foot in the world, and one foot in the church. 'I roll with the foxes and hunt with the hounds' is like my favorite line ever. :D
this song is about addictions and how they ruin your life and the affect they have on you.
I think everyone's missed on this one so far. The speaker in this song is War itself. War can be "both both friend and enemy, an object of disdain," it's the "pain that brings us close to God," it is the "bandage and the bane," it's the "answer that we misunderstand," it "does the evil that an honest man can't," etc. etc.
Plus it's something that we can't control. It accompanies both the hunters (hounds) and the hunted (foxes). Once war has "cut us in," so to speak, there's no way out but to fight. Lines referencing the high ground also conjure up images of battle and conflict.
I personally think that this song is about a prophet. There's a saying that goes 'A prophet is never welcomed in their home town.' and I believe that this phrase would best sum up the comparisons in this song. Several prophets and people in revolutionaries in history often rejected and seen as the enemy because they challenge the current system and bring about a much needed change.
This song was written for the Incredible Hulk. But as they are Christians, obviously the themes of sin creep into their writing whether it's intended to or not.
Taking the lyrics word for wor, literally and at face value it is very easy to see that it is the Incredible Hulk. Lose control, feel it in my bones, etc etc.
But it also has the theme of an insidious evil that is a part of every human being that sometimes takes over and we can't control. Both meanings express a dislike for the terrible nature that takes over and is sometimes incontrollable and expess a desire for freedom from it.
