Well it's always hard to interpret their lyrics now because they are great at making up really emotional stuff that never actually happened to them. They (or Caleb mainly) are storytellers. So the lyrics could mean nothing personal to Caleb or they could mean everything.
When i first heard it I thought of how much time they've spent in spain touring, and how he could have met a girl there, and how i'm sure age doesn't matter to people in spain as much as in the united states. She seems to act older than her age, and sure has a lot in common with caleb if she likes wine, to whine, to drink all the time, and is very wound up and mixed up. Obviously he had to leave her eventually.
I don't really get the brothers frightened line. Possibly he got her pregnant and her brothers were scared for how the baby would be taken care of. But i doubt that.
i think your spot on whiterain.... possibly he wanted her to come touring with him, but his brothers were frightened it was no place for a relationship to begin and a family to be raised? hence 'whens a baby gonna sleep' when your constantly touring... ahh just a guess who knows.

What if Caleb did get a Spanish girl pregnant? How crazy would that be.. This is the song that two years ago I said, "If that 17 song by Kings of Leon comes on my Pandora station today, then I'll buy that album." It did and I bought all their other albums and now I can't get enough KoL.. I even saw them in ATL, the gig before they canceled their tour.. AMAZING!!! LOVE THEM SO MUCH!!!

The bells don't do it for me.
I am sure this song will slowly grow on me. The song itself is awesome, but the bells sound too much like a cheesy christmas hymn.
the church bells make this song even more amazing than it really is. church bells = church = wedding which is not the nature of the relationship = dude is singing about having a sexual/physical relationship wid a 17 yr old spanish chick and not wanting to leave her behind, so the church bells are kind of a contradiction/ though if she was old enuff their sexual chemistry would make him want to stay
