Thembraincells seems to have gotten the meaning down - Jenny is offering a piece of advice to a dear friend of hers who is stuck in a perpetually abusive relationships, giving her a shoulder to lean on, telling her to keep her head up, etc etc.
I like the sense of irony that the chorus creates: although Jenny wants to help her friend is every way and wants her to leave this chauvinistic pig, she can't get through to her. Thus, she leaves her friend with some parting words and bids "godspeed to you". Great, great song!

I just heard this song for the first time and it brought me to tears… I was in an emotionally abusive marriage and my sister helped me get out of it and now she is in the same situation and it breaks my heart because she doesn't want to give up on it but I can't stand to see her so miserable. I'm helpless to do anything because it has to be her decision just like it had to be mine. I've never heard a song that spoke about this experience and it is just speaking to me so much and kind of comforting to hear someone else relating what could be my very words
