For me, this is about Caleb wanting to "go home," but he's dicked someone around, and now he's struggling with the "notion to say what doesn't feel right", the hardest thing in the world to say: SORRY.

He's behaved badly before ("you been here before"), and the person he's done wrong is dissing him ("i got an answer in your story today it gave me a sign that didn't feel right").

Caleb worries that the first response to his apology will be to disbelieve his sincerity, so he begs "Don't knock it, don't knock it!"

The person Caleb wants to make peace with is someone identified with his roots, "home," so it could be an ex-girlfriend, or an old buddy, from before he was famous, but it is likely that the person is now selling "stories" to the media about him, and Caleb just wants his friend back, to say sorry, return to the past happiness they once shared. . .

on one of the home movies on their website, caleb says how this song is about how rowdy and drunk he gets out on the road (he's prolly not the only one)...and he was hoping that things would change once he "could go home"

the "don't knock it" part means that he has been drunk before and that he prolly won't stop getting drunk and doing things out of line..so don't knock it!

when caleb says "don't knock it" i think he's saying "don't knock it til you try it"...he's apologizing to someone and as a way to make that person understand and forgive him he's basically saying that "everyone makes mistakes and F's up but don't be too quick to judge me when you've made the same mistake at some point (hence the "you've been there before")."

Regardless of the meaning...it's an amazing song..the first time i heard it was actually 2 days ago.i'm going through a breakup right now, but as soon as it came on the radio i just smiled 'cause it was soo amazing, and it relates to my life to a T right now: i messed up,and im sorry...but forgive me because one day you'll make a mistake and be the one asking for forgiveness.

Whenever it starts, it ALWAYS reminds me of christmas songs. Like Jingle Bells...

The meaning to this song is simple. The person wants out of a relationship and is struggling to find a way to leave...they have been struggling with this for some time.

Rated 0 rate down rate up Hope this isn't too obvious to point out, but I think it's a sign of a truly great song that it can withstand so many different personal interpretations. A teacher taught me once that it's a paradox, but the more intensely personal your art is, the more universal it becomes. And our reactions to art are going to vary.

This song is my first exposure to KOL (I know, I live in a cave ). I saw the video late one night last week, and the astonishing visuals seemed to provide a radically different spin. So what the song means to me comes out of a real ignorance of who they are - it's based on the song and the video alone. It may not be "right" but it's my own take...

The song seems to be full of intense longing for personal peace and balance and spiritual growth and fulfillment, but the pursuit of that is hindered by the simple act of being alive and battling alone against an abrasive world. Nothing he does is understood by others. He's reached a brick wall, and just wants to die ("go home") because it's all so very difficult and it just doesn't feel right. He realizes he has no center anymore and he gets a notion to end it all.

The "don't knock it" is a kind of universal wisdom, a voice from within, that is comforting and encouraging him. It's saying "don't give up, give it all another chance and keep trying even though it's hard." He's been through this before, and he's going to survive it. It's just another lesson about being alive.

At this point in the chorus, the brick wall behind them breaks open and is demolished in a refining, purifying fire that rains debris all around them. It's dangerous and cataclysmic, but they are in a kind of focused oblivion - unhurt and alive. They are making music no matter what, and all is surprisingly well. His notion was based on fear, and when you get past that, you break through into an equilibrium that doesn't depend on circumstances.

But I can also see it being about him getting drunk/hurtful and wanting to be different, and wanting to apologize even though it doesn't feel right.

My first favourite from the album. For some reason it reminds me of Ragoo from BOTT.
