Richard Ashcroft's words are so abstract...I always just tell myself they're about "life," 'cos I don't totally understand them all the time.
To me this song is about not being a point in your life that you like. You're stuck, alone, and you know where you want to be and what you want to do, but do you know how to get there, and if you're even supposed to get there? That's why he says "I saw myself, and it wasn't quite right."
And regardless, you think of what you want to become, but you're still not sure. "Slippin' out, slippin' in and out of dreams."
I don't know....I love this song. It's one of those perfect Verve songs. So English sounding too.

This song always makes me think of the journey of the Verve. More the tone than the lyrics I suppose, but it feels like a nostalgic, 'I've been through everything and I'm still here but still don't have all the answers' type thing. It almost made me cry the first time I heard it. What a way to crown an album.

Brilliant song. Probably one of my favourite from the new album. Love the melody. The verve have evolved so much. Since songs like sonnet and drugs dont work to stuff like this!
The chords to this are very Comfortably Numb, but it's amazing how the Verve manage to create a completely different song. Nick's guitar = bliss. And the end minute... say no more :)
To me this is about finding yourself, your true inner self. And McCabe's outro on this song is a complete tranquil sea of bliss.
