I'd like to add to sharondoyle37's armor interpretation:
I agree, but I see it even more specifically to mean a shirt of mail armor (good defense against slashes, but often pierced by a strong enough blow). Religion may also stand for morality in this case, which would make sense with the two put together; little things here and there may not affect one's integrity much, but a single harsh blow easily challenges it.
I love this song so much. The way it sends chills down your spine but in a beautiful, eerie way. Its addicting and meaningful, and I thank One Tree Hill for using it. :)

well.. looks like one tree hill made it a world famous song :) i love almost all the music of the show and this one wasn't the exception.. it's so dramatic and freak love it.
I think that war sweater means armour. it makes sense then @You wear your religion like armour" In war you wear armour. just my take on the song.

No, I do agree with that. I think it's aimed at someone using it as something to hide behind, like how people put up walls to keep people from finding out what they're really like. Or in this case, what their morality actually stands for behind it.

I LOVE this song! The lyrics and the melody and the instrumental line are unbelievably beautiful.
I heard this on season 6 oth and i fell in love with it also its so true and its talking about religion adn it just makes sense.
One of my favorite songs of all time.
I can't imagine this NOT being about President Bush. He cited religion for all the atrocities he committed, namely the war. (wearing his religion like a war sweater) Tying into the war, he sat on his fences, meaning he tried to straddle the line between conservatives & liberals to get everyone to go along with him, & he "screamed no retreat" by not withdrawing our troops.
So this song is pretty much saying, how will he be remembered? (what will his legacy be?) since he was so concerned about a legacy.
This was my immediate interpretation, & everything seems to line up so well... of course, it can also apply to all radical christians, but I think it was aimed at Bush with the specifics...
