The Ghost of St. Valentine Lyrics

Oh pain, I’m doing bad
I’m getting answers to some questions that I never should have asked
And it’s getting old; it’s decomposing fast
Just when I thought it couldn’t get much worse, life stabbed me in the back.

I’d rather face the gallows because nothing matters and I’ll just change my name
There is no love just appetite and its consequences keep you up at night
Well, appetite is lost at best and it’s up to us to figure out the rest

I thought that I was working towards the truth
Thought if I waited long enough I’d put this passion to good use
And in a flash, cut to me, with head in hands
In a fight without a cause I am a wounded veteran

I’d rather face the gallows because nothing matters and I’ll just change my name
There is no love just appetite and its consequences keep you up at night
Well, appetite is lost at best and it’s up to us to figure out the rest

It’s not right to lose control the way I do
(I am a slave to this)
(I am a masochist)

This one’s got whiskers; it’s as old as ice
It’s nothing new
(I am a slave to this)
(I am a masochist)

I’d rather face the gallows because nothing matters and I’ll just change my name
There is no love just appetite and its consequences keep you up at night
Well, appetite is lost at best and it’s up to us to figure out the rest
And it’s up to us to figure out the rest
And it’s up to us to figure out the rest

The narrator is seeing how love has disappeared in lieu of one night stands and sexual appetite. He doesn't want to exist in a world where love isn't the most important thing anymore.

Really sad song, in part because it's so true. One of my favorites off the new album.

I'm loving the new bayside. I plan on buying it the day it comes out (even though i already downloaded it). Took a few listens to get into it but even on the first listen this song and rochambo stood out as my clear favorites. This song seems like its about a relationship in which he keeps getting hurt (possibly cheated on) but he doesn't want to believe it and keeps going back for more, so to speak. Even if thats not what the song is about it speaks to me in that way because ive been in that same sort of situation...

i think it's "appetite is lust at best". this song is fucking sick though.

I feel he is singing from the perspective of St. Valentine from where we get Valentine's Day from. St. Valentine has given up on love and no longer want to be associated with love. He rather face the gallows which is where you get hanged to death. St valentine was a mytar after all and hes rather be hung. he also wants to change his name so he is no longer associated with love....thats my though.. .What do you tihnk?

Pretty much sounds to me like he wants nothing to do with love anymore since it's meaning has lost its value. I think he says love is just another word for lust for each other, nothing more.

This is my favorite song off the new album, and I pretty much agree with how Anthony words this new song.

Bayside is amazing, cuz you can both analyze their lyrics (which are gorgeous) and play air guitar while jumping on your bed to them.

I think this song is about how love is now non-existant nowadays. Sex is a way of showing your love for another person in a physical way, but turns out the love isn't there anymore. I think Anthony is saying that he'd rather be dead then have to go through life alone in a lustful world. He's striving so hard to find true love but always ends up getting hurt, and it's eating away, thus trying to say it's up to us to figure out the rest. Like he said in "I and I"..."I'm learning where to stand or to tread lightly," and love seems to be where he's treading lightly. Idk just my thoughts.
