i think she's trying to explain her realization of the fact that she likes rough sex because her relationships are so unsatisfying that if she cant feel it in her heart when she's "making love" she might as well feel it somewhere else. and the more she feels it down there the less she'll think about the lack of love there is. or maybe she's been hurt so many times in the past with crappy relationships that rough sex is the only thing she looks forward to, so even when a good guy is "outside banging," she wont let him in. instead she just prefers rough sex, comfort zone. it made more sense in my head...

And there's you're explanation. =) I'm positive I'm right, because I am an aries like her, and all Aries women have a problem with insecurities (look it up) and this just makes so much sense to me. It really has nothing to do with sex! It's a giant metaphor for not wanting to get hurt, but liking someone so much she's wondering if he's worth pushing away.

alright so she interviewed on FUSE on tv and she explained that this song means: she likes things in her life that are complicated but she doesn't understand why she complicates things and enjoys it. so she likes it rough... it might not be about just the sex. she might mean both though.

All of you have great interpretations of this song, I think GaGa is an amazing song writer. To me this song is about her in a relationship with a guy who wants more than casual sex.

I think she's saying that this guy wants more from their relationship than she does. He's trying to get into her thoughts and how she's feeling but she just wants something physical so she 'won't let him in'.

So I don't think the song is about her liking rough sex, I think it's a little deeper than that. That's just what I think.

Alright. let's put everything together without anyone's personal experiences influencing the interpretation:

For whatever reason, the girl likes it rough, or at least wants it rough. She wants to feel something strong and powerful, perhaps sort of like how many women have rape fantasies.

I really don't think the tissues are because she's crying, c'mon, she's fighting in this song!! She's having a good time - alone. She needs tissues... yeah, now you've got it.

This guy that likes her is soft, but she wants a fight to know it's real. She wants to be able to fight and be crazy and still be assured the guy loves her back and wants her enough to fight for her, with her. This guy, on the other hand: his "love is nothing [she] can't fight."

Tears with silver lines... I don't think the girl is wiping her tears with "silver lines," rather, I think the silver lines are a description of the tears coursing down her face. She wipes the tears, yet she still wants it rough. Her shine is simply her brazen personality. Prom girl? or just dressed up prostitute. You decide.

Nevertheless, she recognizes that this guy is pretty sweet, and so he's "got [her] wonderin' why [she] likes it rough." So she tries for a moment to place blame on him with "is it 'cause you don't mean it?" But she knows... she just likes it rough. :)

i think she uses the phrase 'like it rough' from sex for sensationalism, but actually applies it to the emotional side of relationships - why does she want the 'bad romance', the 'drama', the fights and tears? Why isn't she emotionally satisfied with a nice quiet relationship you can take home to your parents?
