Sixteen Lyrics

So far we had some, but it doesn't
Work for everyone, but I'm thinking
This could be the one, if we put our minds to it

And I came round today, and you saw that
I had so much to say, and I know you
Hate seeing me this way, but I'm having fun

You realise, you realise, it's real life, it's real life
You realise, you realise, it's real life, it's real life
You realise, you realise, it's real life, it's real life
You realise, you realise, it's real life, it's real life

Trying to prove you're all right
And losing track of the time
Even with the summer passing by

Bringing it down, into focus
I try to bring it down, but I'm hopeless
We should write this down so we can remember it

Yes there was a time, when we were
Two of a kind, but now I can't
Even remember why.

You realise, you realise, it's real life, it's real life
You realise, you realise, it's real life, it's real life

Trying to prove you're all right
And losing track of the time
Sixteen hits on the side
And don't waste any time inside
Even with the summer passing by

as weird as it sounds, this song is about smoking marijuana and trying to get high for the first time, probably on the guys 16th birthday

"Worked for everyone, but i'm thinking This could be the one, if we put our minds to it" i mean i have friends who only got high on their 4-5th time, so he's trying to get high

"Hate seeing me this way, but i'm having fun" when some of your friends don't like seeing you high because you seem so different, but you're really just the same

"You realise, you realise, it's real life, it's real life" okay they say this 4 times this is important, he's high, and trying to get himself to remember that this is real life

"Trying to prove your own right And losing track all the time" so blatant

"Bringing it down, into focus I try to bring it down, but i'm hopeless We should write this down so we can remember it" like when your chilling, and youre like wow this stuff is awesome, we should write down all the stuff we're saying and make a f*ckin movie

This is SO not about weed, geez.. This is about a person who turned sixteen and realises he already lives for sixteen years and he's like: oh wow, what am I doing? what am I supposed to do? Something like that.. All very teenage-confused-ish xD

Though I like it.. Because it's Bombay Bicycle Club.. And because I'm sixteen ;D

This song is about a young couple who isn't as in love as they used to be.

"So far we have found, that it doesn't Work for everyone, but I'm thinking This could be the one, if we put our minds to it"

This is the beginning of the relationship when they think that they can be one of the few couples who can stay together throughout their teenage years and get married.

And I came round today, and you saw that I had so much to say, and I know you Hate seeing me this way, but I'm having fun

He realizes that he's only 16, and he wants to live his life. "I know you hate seeing me this way, but I'm having fun"

And then the chorus is talking about him realizing that the world is huge. It's not just his little high school experience, there's so much out there in the world and he's barely opening his eyes to it.

Trying to prove you're all right And losing track of the time Even with the summer passing by

He's saying to his girl that the relationship is fine, even though it's boring and stale. The summer is passing by! There are so many things he could be doing with his life but he feels that there's no excitement in the world.

Bringing it down, into focus I try to bring it down, but I'm hopeless We should write this down so we can remember it

So now their love is dwindling away. He wants to save the relationship and go back to their feelings of love, hence the "write this down so we can remember it" but the honeymoon phase is over.

Yes there was a time, when we were Two of a kind, but now I can't Even remember why.

Self explanatory. Gets me every time. Ahhh, young love.
