Silhouettes Lyrics

And I know you won't admit this
I am just a silhouette to you
You found comfort with my distance
But you never let me stray out of your view

Who really needs the past
With the allure of something new
So we split apart at last
Went back to the places that I knew
Before you

And you never have to see
The light that wraps itself around me
And I never have to know
The faces and
The places you go

When I can't bear the resistance
I bend in shapes and ways that I never knew
So I'll try to postpone my existence
Yeah I'll stop or start my heart if you ask me to
I'll stop my heart and then I'll wait for you

I was sure I never would be sure we were in love
I am sure I never would be sure of love to come
(Although it's dark and black)
(There is one thing left to hold on to)
After you

And you'll never have to see
The light that wraps itself around me
And I never have to know
The faces and
The places you go

(So hold on tightly to your vice and
Pull the wool over your eyes
No matter what, you'll always see
The outline that is left from me)

"So I'll try to post from my existence"

Wtf? LOL I dunno about anyone else, but what I hear is "postpone" my existence; "post from" makes absolutely no sense to me.

Yeah, it's totally postpone. lol

Agreed, definitly!

I think this song is not necessarily a break up song in the sense that the two actually dated. I kind of get the feeling that the girl and guy were really close friends that always loved the other but never made the commitment to the other. For example the opening line states that she feels that she is just a silhouette that he never wanted too far from him what I take from that is that he doesnt want her running off with another person or just moving on so he is always there to keep her in his view. The chorus to me is basically saying that she doesnt have to see the light or the girl that wraps her arms around him and he doesnt have to know the places and the guys she is with now because they finally went there separate ways, even though she just went back to the same places that they use to like two people who share the same friends and hang outs. The guys verse is basically saying that he never expected to care so much and resisted the feeling but found himself changing to be with her and to make her happy. the last verse is basically them sharing the same emotion that the feel there was love but they never made the leap so they will never know. and the hidden verse is just like all of us we try to move on or drown the feeling with drink or another person but in the need its just pulling the wool over your eyes because the fact is they still want to be with each other they just blew it.

This song is written so beautifully with so much sweet sentiment.....I think it's about the End of a Relationship between 2 people and the insecurity, confusion and jealousy that comes with it.

"I know you won't admit this I am just a silhouette to you You found comfort with my distance But you never let me stray out of your view"

That stage after the end of a relationship where you question if your other half felt the things for you that you thought he did....I think They're not over each other which would make the breakup more painful....By Silhouette/shadow....The girl feels that she is one in regards to the guy...Means less to him then before.....She's frustrated that he's able to deal with the breakup better, but yet won't give her the clean break that she needs.

"Who really needs the past With the allure of something new So we split apart at last Went back to the places that I knew Before you"

She wants to move on from him, or she's trying to convince herself to...ya know, 'grass is always greener' thinking....trying to look forward to what's next, and not what was.....

"And you'll never have to see The light that wraps itself around me And I'll never have to know The faces there The places you go"

By being as far from each other as possible...They won't have to watch/endure the moving on to the next love/happiness that isn't each other....They won't have to see that special light/softness in each others eyes, and know that it's not for them...they're trying to convince themselves it's as easy as 'out of sight...out of mind'

"When I can't bear the resistance I bend in shapes and in ways that i never knew So I'll try to postpone my existence yeah I'll stop or start my heart.... if you ask me to I'll stop my heart.....and then I'll wait for you"

The guy isn't really coping with the breakup like the girl thinks he is.....It's seems if she gives him a sign that he doesn't have to let her go or move on from her...well he's not gonna...He'll stop his heart and wait for her....He'll fight for them.

"I was sure....I never would be sure....we were in love (Although it's dark and black) I am sure...I never will be sure...of love to come (There is one thing left to hold on to) After you"

only realizing now, what they had meant so much......although it's painful now for both of them...and they're not sure if they ever will get over each other....They have to try to be optimistic that 'time and distance heals'

"So hold on tightly to your vice and pull the wool over your eyes No matter what, you'll always see.. the outline that is left from me (2x)"

No matter what they try to convince themselves of......they've left an imprint/silhouette on each other that will be impossible to get rid of.

It's a very bittersweet song about the downside of Love....Really beautiful <33

"When I count by the resistance I bend in shapes in ways I never knew So I'll try to post from my existence Yeah I'll stop or start my heart if you ask me to I'll stop my heart and then I'll wait for you"

It's actually...

"When I can't bare the resistance I bend in shapes in ways I never knew So I'll try to postpone my existence yeah I'll stop or start my heart if you ask me to I'll stop my heart, and then I'll wait for you."

i totally agree.

"Who really needs the past With the allure of something new So we split apart at last Went back to places that I knew Before you"

Pretty obvious, it's right in the text, but.. It reminds me of a breakup, and that since they're broken up they can do what they weren't able to do while they were together. And that we shouldn't dwell on past things - there's always something new ahead of us.

I love this song.

I agree with Alysenn, and i can't believe more people havn't discovered this song. I think it's beautiful. :]

Love this song, it's pretty much on repeat.

I agree with what Alysenn said. Two people who were unsure whether their love was proper, the only way to discover this is to go their seperate ways. One quote leads me to believe that the guy isn't quite sure and wants to keep the girl in sight just in case his thoughts appear to be nothing: "But you never let me stray out of your view"

Great song.

i think its all about a state of confusion and just being lost after a breakup.

cool extended metaphor in the beginning saying shes a silhouette or a shadow which, obviously, isn't close to you but never leaves your sight

"Who really needs the past With the allure of something new"

i think that's a little bit of sarcasm actually because in the next part

"So we split apart at last Went back to places that I knew Before you"

she isnt somewhere new, but back to where she was before

"And you never have to see The light that wraps itself around me And I never have to know The faces there The places you go"

now its none of their business what each other does which i think kinda sucks for them

"So I'll try to postpone my existence Yeah I'll stop or start my heart if you ask me to I'll stop my heart and then I'll wait for you"

they still want each other

"I was sure I never would be sure we were in love I am sure I never would be sure of love to come After you"

its like ok we broke up what do i do now? like pretty much she's lost

idk thats what i see it cuz thats how i relate to it

My Interpretation

No one has posted about what's said at the end of the song as it fades out. I'm not sure, but it sounds like:

So go and ? me to your eyes and pull the wool over your eyes no matter what you'll always see the outline that is left of me

Meh. I think? Maybe? Anyone else have anything better?

So hold on tightly to (your ..ice?) and pull the (wall) over your eyes no matter what you'll always see the (oven?) that is left from me

I love that part, whatever it really is.. I'm going to see them in March, maybe I'll ask him myself :DDD

I think it's a mix of what you guys have...

So hold on tightly to your ____ (eyes makes more sense than ice...I think it kinda sounds like so hold on tightly to your ____ scene, but that's probably wrong.)

and pull the wall over your eyes. No matter what you'll always see the outline that is left from me.

So the issue with "wall" is that you really can't pull a wall anywhere, much less over your eyes. So I don't think that's it. But I think I hear "hold on tightly" now.

To "pull the wool over (someone's) eyes" is a common idiom that means to deceive someone. Since the lyrics say "pull the wool over your eyes" the artist seems to be suggesting that it's self-deception. As if saying "Go ahead, let yourself be misled from seeing the true reality of our situation." Given this context, I think the lyrics are "and pull...

It's just about the paranoia in the whole reason for having a long-distance relationship that can never work. Comfort in distance but not letting the other straight out of your view is the keen sign of a breakdown in the fact that the distance just can't let it last. You're secretly happy with the fact that the other person lives so far away from you that the breakdown isn't a problem you have to deal with, but at the same time you're a paranoia-freak coz they're still your partner and they can do anything while you're not there to be able to see them. Most people in long distance relationships only seem to get to know one side of eachother aswell because of the fact that they rarely meet eachothers friends or spend time around them, or at least in familiar comfort.
