Ares Lyrics
War, war, war, war
I want to declare a war
My fist breaks your porcelain nose
There are other things that hands can do
To create or to destroy, mini gods and goddesses
First person singular
Set it, set it, set it off
War, war, war, war
Keep the past the future is ours
Man made natural disaster
Blocking out all of the sun
Supermen and mitsi turbo
Speed agility super strength
Wipe the blood of those knuckles
Spark it give me two’s on that
War, war, war, war
I want to declare a war
True say blud that when we ride
We don’t stop for nobody
The Africans and the Bengalis
He knows all the rude boys
Reebok, Nike, Adidas, Puma
"Rer, rer, rer, this shit is long"
It’s all getting, quite highly charged
Get out the way, or get fucked up
We dance to the sound of sirens
We dance to the sound
And to think, that these hands
Could work wonders, with their touch
Listening to dead singers in your room
In '98
We dance to the sound of sirens
We dance to the sound
I want to declare a war
My fist breaks your porcelain nose
There are other things that hands can do
To create or to destroy, mini gods and goddesses
First person singular
Set it, set it, set it off
Keep the past the future is ours
Man made natural disaster
Blocking out all of the sun

Potentially the best song off of the album.
"all the rude boys"... that bit is so awesome... and the utter silence with the "98"... i love this song.
Superman and Mister Turbo?
And yes... new Bloc Party is really good. Might be the best ever, which is nice after a lacklustre (for the most part anyway) second album.
War, war, war, war!
Great opener. Just like on the previous two.
The meaning is so obvious. It's just A narration of what is wrong in the world.
Love the new sound as well. This led into mercury is fantastic
It is such a good song but yet so many have slated it for the new sound comparing it to the chemical brothers. Which doesn't really make sense as this is more guitar driven. I suppose those reviewers that prefer "something fresh" are really after something that will chart
I want to declare a war It really is a good opener. Appropriate name, Ares god of warfare.
....Give me twos on that! Thats the lyric methinks
before 'man made human disaster' it's 'keep the past/the future's ours' i think...
The line is 'Supermen and Mitzy Turbos'
These were two popular names of 'E' or ecstasy pills that were taken in the big sort of clubbing era in the UK around 1998 (could be a connection as he mentions that year at the end of the song). Appropriate as he goes on to describe what it might be like on a drug of this type. Another social group in england at that time were 'rude boys' (now chavs) that all wore sports branded gear like he described, and they were prolly the group that mostly were opposite to the loved up clubbers of the era.
Could be something else in that he says 'spark him... gimmi twos on that' later in the song which is referring to smoking reefa (if someone lights a doobie you says twos on that and it means you go next).
Hope some of this helps other bloc party fans!!!!
Also just noticed the second lline on the second block could be keep the 'past and future out' (living for the moment in clubland)
Could it be that Kele was a bit of a raver back in the late 90s.... could explain the electro beats of some of the latest songs??
