A Fault Line, A Fault of Mine Lyrics
I'm not scared, but this is happening
I'm not afraid, but this is real
It all comes at once
From every single direction
This time I'm not sleeping at all
How could this be real
I've failed you
I was lying when I said
I was looking north
I was too scared to show what I am
Bear with me this is all I have left
This might be more than a simple conversation
It's been dancing around in my head
For quite some time
Just a though
Of cleaning up myself
I stare at the wall
Watching my time float away
It's all been a blur
And nothing will change
I was lying
This is defeat
I'm not afraid, but this is real
It all comes at once
From every single direction
How could this be real
I've failed you
I was lying when I said
I was too scared to show what I am
Bear with me this is all I have left
This might be more than a simple conversation
For quite some time
Just a though
Of cleaning up myself
Watching my time float away
It's all been a blur
And nothing will change
I was lying
This is defeat

I think its like a part two if you look at the lyrics from define the great line - To whom it may concern Spencer sings It's time for you to press on This is not your war Set your sights to North and press on This is not your escape Wash away what they thought of you Because in the end we're all as good as dead ...end cycle...
and now he says he was lying when he was looking north... But good song its has good meaning he was feeling guilty and hes letting us know now hes coming clean...we all make mistakes so its all good
"i was lying when i said i was looking north. i was too scared to show what i am"
the whole song can be summed up with that through spencer's problems lately, he kept telling everyone that he was looking up, and things were getting better. but he knew they really werent. then finally, he's like "this is defeat." kind of a sad ending, but i think the whole album is a concept of him getting over it all. :]
BEST SONG ON THE NEW CD!
"This night be more than a single conversation" Should be "This MIGHT be more than a SIMPLE conversation"
I think there are a couple other mistakes, but nothing is major.
getting over what? drugs?
wasn't that a rumor?
Yeah it was a rumor, hasn't he been clean from drugs for a long time.
"How could this be real I’ve failed you I was lying when I said I was looking north I was too scared to show what I am Bear with me this is all I have left"
best song on the album! god, amazinggg!! omg. underoath is just the best band ever. no lie.
i do think its about him asking people to forgive him for lying and making them believe he was over drugs & stuff.
Alex, I think that could be true. If not thats a good guess man.
Alex, i think you hit it man. As soon as i saw that like i thought of "set your sights to north".
Its not a rumor. He does have problems with drugs. He also has a sexual sin problem. The first conclusion comes from the fact he came out and said it. The second comes from Theyre Only Chasing Safety.
The lines at the end really hit home for me. I know exactly what he is talking about. I myself am a Christian and struggle with addiction. When you think back to how long you have been struggling, time is a blur. And the last lines have gone through my head. When you think about the days, months, years that you have been going through. You end up just thinking "this will never end, im a failure". But it doesnt end there, the song may but the whole album is meant to be taken together i think.
I COMPLETELY agree with you. I am a Christiona myself too and i have struggled with addiction. From what i can remember of it, it was all a blur. All i thought was that i was a total failure and i was never gonna make it out. When you listen to each Underoath album as a whole, you can see that each song is linked in one way or another.

Alexunder1oath hit it fucking hard The two songs connect in more ways than just lyrical. Listen to them back to back and you'll get it
