Something to Die for Lyrics

Peel me off the hook, that's something to die for
Heal me, help me see what the hell did I lie for ?
I'm fighting private wars again,
just second thoughts of where and when
So peel me off the hook,
that's something to die for

Won't you see it in your heart, you should
Know you always played your part real good, oh yeah
that's something to die for
that's something to die for

Well you know me I never learn
I'm holding onto sacred words
So peel me off the hook,
that's something to die for

Won't you see it in your heart, you should
Know you always played your part real good

If it hurts, we'll be there
We'll be standing by the shore
You will see how the waves wash away all the dirt
That's something to die for
That's something to die for

Won't you see it in your heart
Oh, don't you know you played your part real good
x2

In the end I'll be there
I'll be standing by your side
We will see how the tide
Hides away all the dirt

That's something to die for
That's something to die for

I love this song. I think it has something to do with honesty. Especially the lines "won't you see it your heart, you should/oh, don't you know you played your part real good", like finding the capacity for truth inside yourself instead of coasting by on a facade. Also, "you will see how the waves wash away all the dirt" implies the water, naturalistic and pure, will wash away the dishonesty. That's how I see it, at least.

I think it's about a girl whose gone through a lot and ended up screwing up things and the boy didn't react well either. He comes around and wants to help her despite it, to gain her trust back.

I think this is more about a girl contemplating or committing suicide. The boy understands this, as he has gone through the same thing, "I'm fighting private wars again / just second thoughts of where and when" and wants to help her. I think he is describing what it was like for him but however he 'got over' his depression and he is trying to reassure her that she can do it too.

the line, 'don't you know you played your part real good' is about her part in the world and that people want her even if she feels like there is something she doesnt love about herself, "You will see how the waves wash away all the dirt"

i dont know about the variations in the lines were one says washing and the other hiding. could that mean something?
