When I first heard this song, I thought it was like every day, the character lost the memories of the day before. So when it says, "She told me each and every day..." her name is because he never remembered her, and maybe only fragments of memories stayed. And when it says, "I can’t recall where I slept that night" it's because he can never remember the day before. I think it's pretty cool.
Obviously about a man who is in love with his amnesia. And when he gets it fixed, Amnesia is not there.
i always enterpreted this as someone who finds out a girl has been going around telling everyone that he is their boyfriend, and being like 'i dont remember any of that'

Neil says on the album it's about a man who suffers amnesia and soon falls in love with the nurse who treats him. This nurse gets fired in the end for having relationships with her patients.
My friend had an interesting interpretation. Where he though that the song was about a man who had skitsaphrenia (pardon my spelling), but thought he had amnesia cause he would remember things different from others. And when his mind is cured the woman disappears suddenly. He can't remember being in love because he never was in the first place. My personal intake of this interpretation made me think that the man was also suicidal and that he fell in love with the idea of death
