I've been
Traveling the land from gravel into sand
Not knowin' where I'm going never havin' any plans
Anything I wanted had to grab it in advance
Abracadabra there's a rabbit in my hands cause
I've got the magic stick bust the baddest tricks
Fished for a whale brought a ship up out of it
What's that I just saw? A platypus? Naw.
Maybe it's a rat crawling flat on his paws
Or a baby dragon just draggin' his claws
It doesn't really matter
Because it's Saturday,
So look thataway
3 o'clock matinee,
Let's collaborate
And I'll pay you back soon
With a crazy rap tune.
But for now were just gazing at the moon
Wander and ponder the pale blue yonder
To infinite and beyond the city
Beyond the city we all want to see serenity
But some times you've gotta hop the fence to see
That all sidewalks must end eventually
I sit still at the bottom of the sea
Brainwaves chill I can see an enemy
Sentient entity
Let the spirit enter me
Patient, pervasive, how I was meant to be
A stone worn smooth by the swift currents of chaos
A place to lay a thick array of lush moss
I'm parlaying on my day off
Floating way off on my thought balloons and snacking on macaroons
But for now I'm just gazing at the moon.

I think this song is like the five minutes before you fall alseep, when your thinking about your life, and you day, and thinking of your plans for tomorrow... but that's just me!
are you kidding?! this song is filled with so much symbolism, it's ridiculous. basically what he's saying is that each path has its end. but just because something is over, doesn't mean that the moment isn't significant. "But some times you've gotta hop the fence to see That all sidewalks must end eventually I sit still at the bottom of the sea Brainwaves chill I can see an enemy Sentient entity Let the spirit enter me Patient, pervasive, how I was meant to be" It's saying that it's okay to be at peace.
The Flobots have more spiritual themes in platypus, and then they got to be a bit more political.
Your quote there is my favorite part of the song. So deep, so ill. It reminds me of adventure and meditation

You know, I'm not entirely sure what their deal is with the whole "platypus" thing. I've heard that word all over their works, and it seems to be some weird inside joke with them. It's in Handlebars-- "Me and my friend saw a platypus" -- It's funny as hell, but random as moose boogers.
I have been wondering this as well. In No W they mention it as well.

The Flobots mention platypus in a lot of their songs because a platypus is one of a kind, it is one of the only mammals that lay eggs. And the flobots are one of a kind because they have two rappers, two guitarists, a violinist, a drummer, and sometimes even a guy playing the trumpet.

It shows up in three of their songs that I know of, all of them on the Platypus EP. (the original version of Handlebars was on the EP). So I guess it just kind of came out during that time period but I haven't heard them refer to it anywhere else on Fight With Tools or later

Am I the only one that realizes in the second verse he says.
"Brain waves chill like a sea anemone"
Makes more sense does it not, fits much nicer than seeing an enemy.....
and its "to infinity and beyond the city" which isn't as big of a deal.
Just saying
Thats probably my favorite verse of all time. So chill and such amazing flow. I seriously stumble across this on shuffle and will replay it a minimum of 4-5 times before moving on to the next song.
Automatic good mood.
yeah man those were the two corrections I spotted immediately also. It should be changed.

I don't think the song needs a meaning. It's almost as if they just got together and started spittin', but had some idea of what they wanted to do. The music is calming, and the words flow together in only a way the Flobots could make them. Don't analyze, just enjoy.
