Q&A
My Drive Thru Lyrics
Pharrell:
I want you
Do you want me, too?
I have one question:
Can I help you?
Now watch me
And what I do
Now thank you for coming through my drive-thru
Casablancas:
When you're haunted by the demons that'll never let you rest
Not shy in front of crowds, but shy in front of just one guest
Not dumb enough to win at their game
but not smart enough to dumb it down and take it away
It's black & white like space at night
If you wanna be like us you'd better work everynight
Santogold:
One question, what's your impression?
Now with a walk like mine, I'm a big presence
So make your move real slow my mind's a weapon
I said just move real slow, no second guessing
I find your approach so adolescent
I may look young, but your game is pre-pubescent
So watch my feet I'm known for my great steppin'
You wanna keep up gotta show me somethin'
Casablancas:
Look at all the leaders over on the playground
Always being up where we could watch
(I'm goin' after you)
The answer to the question I don't understand
is the word that I am never
(I'm going after you)
And if your happiness is watching TV all night long
...? job of dealin' other people in a song
I am here to change your goals
I regret it, but they're not done
Santogold:
You wonder, oh, how do I inspire?
Got the world spinnin' 'round inside my palm
Don't hate me you know they got you wired
You better show up ...?
'Cause we all wanna dance, just wanna dance dance,
We wanna dance, just wanna dance
'Cause we all wanna dance, just wanna dance dance
We wanna dance, just wanna dance
Casablancas:
It's summer in the city
It's summer in the city
We'd like to dance, to dance with you
Don't waste your time with one or two
You time it right, the summer night
You fall in love at every light
Santogold:

First post!
First of all, I can't get enough of this song. It's a great summer song. I think it's depicting working at at drive thru, and wanting to actually get out of your job and experience summer before it's over. It's a perfect July song. I've been listening to it ever since i downloaded it off of converse.com. i think i've listened to it 6 or 7 times now, and i absolutely love the commerical.

wow, i love this song. the music video is really cool.
Love this song! But, was the ad shown in the UK or did I just miss it?
And also, See in Santogold's first bit, is it not "I find your approach so adolescent" ? 'Cus that's what I keep hearing!
This is such a feel good song. It's also a really cool collaboration.. I think the really "make" the song. The music video is really cool too.
how has no one commented on this?!
this is an amazing song(: it's very fun & very summery..
Okay I absolutely love this song but have to point out some things I have begun to see. Pharell starts the song off as if at a fast food joint. Which makes it seem as if it's a buisness with no emotional involvement. We are suppose to just "watch celebrities as the music industry gets our money." He is only working for them.

Then Casablancas comes and talks about "demons that will never let you rest." I have seen some rare interviews of celebrities who say that they have never gotten enough sleep because the Music industry takes advantage of them. And again the next verse he sings near the end disturbs me:
And if your happiness is watching TV all night long ...? job of dealin' other people in a song
I am here to change your goals I regret it, but they're not done
I have heard of many accounts of subliminal messaging being used in TV to influence the masses to buy products or choose a politician or "change goals." And it is almost definitely used in music. He "regrets" that he has seen the darker side of the music industry but they are still using him for their agendas.
The major message to this song is that popular musicians are just "employees" for the music industry carrying out their agendas to influence the masses. They want you to listen to them, give them money, now thank you for coming through the drive-thru and "please come again."
