How Do We Know Lyrics
We've been waiting
On the front line
We've been prepared our entire lives
For this day to arrive
And no doubt this will be
Part of our history
We're making our move
And we're breaking out of the grind
Today, the new age
We'll rise up
State our case
Throw it down
And after the rain
The only ones that still remain
Are standing proud
Separated from the crowd
(How do we know? How do we know?)
Turn on the light
(How do we know? How do we know?)
I need to decide
(How do we know? How do we know?)
Because we may not
(How do we know? How do we know?)
Survive tonight
(How do we know? How do we know?)
But I'll take my chance
(How do we know? How do we know?)
Spare me the romance
(How do we know? How do we know?)
And we'll give it all
(How do we know? How do we know?)
That we can
New information
Coming down the line
But as far as I can tell
It's just the blind leading the blind
I've seen frustration
Written in the eyes
Of a disaffected race
Being born under a bad sign
Today, the new age
We'll rise up
State our case
Throw it down
And after the rain
The only ones that still remain
Are standing proud
Separated from the crowd
(How do we know? How do we know?)
Turn on the light
(How do we know? How do we know?)
I need to decide
(How do we know? How do we know?)
Because we may not
(How do we know? How do we know?)
Survive tonight
(How do we know? How do we know?)
But I'll take my chance
(How do we know? How do we know?)
Spare me the romance
(How do we know? How do we know?)
And we'll give it all
(How do we know? How do we know?)
That we can
Today will be the last day
Tomorrow everything will change
(How do we know? How do we know?)
Turn on the light
(How do we know? How do we know?)
I need to decide
(How do we know? How do we know?)
Because we may not
(How do we know? How do we know?)
Survive tonight
(How do we know? How do we know?)

This is another stab at society and conformism.
I think he is describing a change coming, from conformism and brainwashing, too free thought, and individual opinions. "And no doubt this will be Part of our history We're making our move And we're breaking out of the grind"
Its describing the rise in popularity of left ideals, especially amongst the youth: "Today, the new age We'll rise up State our case Throw it down"
Then it says that the only people who will be successful are those who are able to think for themselves. "And after the rain The only ones that still remain Are standing proud Separated from the crowd"
But then he goes on to admit that he doesn't know everything (how do we know); and asks for the objective truth, without manipulation (turn on the light), because he needs to decide, and form his own opinions. He then decides to take his chances with the information he has. Its very similar to 'Wake Up' because he doubts all information sources, because of all the bias.
"New information Coming down the line But as far as I can tell It's just the blind leading the blind"
I think the word 'line' is both a reference to the internet, and a reference to Chinese whispers. Its basically just saying that all these people blinded by their own preconceptions are posting things on the internet and spreading their own agenda.
I think its a great song, because all it does is encourage free thought. It doesn't actually support any political mind set. While I interpret them as supporting the left, all they do is encourage you to think for yourself, and to be wary of bias and manipulation.
i love this song...really lifts my mood after a long day at school... lol :D
