Secret Life Lyrics

Hangs up her coat like always
Wouldn't have it any other way
The TV glows in her apartment
Much better than most company

[Chorus]
Is something on your mind?
Answer cold as ice
She said tell me about your secret life
And all the things you've seen
Tell me what you think of me

You dance like a queen
In spite of all the things you never wanted
When you
You dance like a queen
You silhouette is still my reflection
You speak to me riddles

Puts on her face like breathing
Another day in black and red
Coat is old, car seat freezing
And the radio just wont play

[Chorus]

You dance like a queen
In spite of all the things you never wanted
When you left out in the cold
You dance like a queen
Your silhouette is still my reflection
You speak to me riddles

I'll find you when the water falls
No empty house or talking walls
I'll come to you in pieces
I'll come to you in pieces
She said

[Chorus]

You dance like a queen
In spite of all the things you never wanted
When you're left out in the cold
Yeah you dance like a queen
Your silhouette is still my reflection
You speak to me in riddles
You speak to me in riddles

I absolutely love this song right now. Here's my take on it:

He's fascinated by this girl who manages to take what's been given to her day after day with a constant fake smile upon her face, despite how messed up it really is. She's not complaining. She asks him what he thinks of her and he simply tells her basically, that even though her life is far from perfect she "dances like a queen." In other words, she makes the best of it. Meanwhile his life may be even better than hers, but he's just always down about it.

And when he says "your silhouette is still my reflection" - a silhouette is black. Black is usually associated with some kind of negativity or depression. He's just amazed by how this girl puts up with every unbelievable thing that goes on in her life, yet unfortunately he just can't find that hope for himself.

Oh, and also: she "speaks to him in riddles" because he still has yet to understand it. He just doesn't see how she can still be so happy.

I think it's beautiful.

I think this song is about some girl who is hiding her pain, being so cheerful to the public, but deep down, she's actually hurt.

Song Meaning

I heard this song right after hearing my friend's dad committed suicide. I knew him really well when I was younger, but then I went to college and didn't see him as much. I knew his life went way downhill in those years, but I didn't know how much since my friend never acted like what was going on with him was really that bad. So it makes me think of her and him. Especially, "Hands are cold as ice," because she found him and kept repeating how cold he was.

Also makes me think about my relationship with both of them, and others. I don't like drama so I like being in my own company with just the TV. When I am with others, I'm always making jokes, and never show much feeling when I'm around others.

This song is amazing. They sure have a way with writing about women. The woman in this song is lonely, lost, and broken, but she delas with her life everyday, no complaints. Maye she's past the point of caring, or maybe she decides she's going to have to just bear with it.

The lines about "secret walls" or whatever... those aren't in the original song, are they?

Not about a girl, in the traditional sense. It's about a queen, in the San Francisco sense.

I think this song is about a prostitute and this guy loves her and appreciates her for who she is. She is a queen to him. He meets her in her apartment and she's been outside, so her hands are cold. He knows she never wanted to be a prostitute. It is bittersweet.
