On The Water Lyrics

All the windows are glowing
The branches bending low
The skyline is swinging
Rocking back and forth
Walking down this dirt road
Watching at the sky
It’s all I can do
It’s all I can do

All the years keep rolling
The decades flying by
But ahh, the days are long

So here’s one to the pigeons
The tugboats on the river
Here’s one to you
For walking in my shoes, ah

Oh, you know I’d never leave you
No matter how hard I try
You know I’d never leave you
And that’s just how it is

Oh, everybody sees right through
Oh, the static
That is, dear, everyone but you

Oh, it’s funny to think it through
Everybody... that is, dear, everyone but you

Cover art for On The Water lyrics by Walkmen, The

I can't believe that anyone give a comment about this song yet! In fact, this is my first comment. I've been reading this page for a long time and now I think it's time to make my humble contribution. I have to say every time I hear this song I almost cry, maybe because since I saw the official video I realize it connects the lyrics directly and that's why I think express the meaning of genuine love. After a tragedy the days are long although you will always remember that you'll never leave those deeply feelings and keep it forever.

My Opinion

As with all Walkmen songs there is that mythological level that is so powerful here....unreal...lifts it up
