Panic sets in
The room just spins
Here it comes again...

Slipping through my fingers out of my reach
Nothing is picture perfect
Buried under the rocks of a landscape
Nothing here is picture perfect
Slipping through your fingers
It's out of your hands

Bleed
Holding on gets harder and harder
Giving up gets harder and harder
(Release)
The tension corrupts direction
I've lost control

Slipping through your fingers, it's out of my grasp
Nothing here is ever perfect
Crippled by the weight of the downfall
Nothing here is real

Keep control

A lifetime of open wounds
Completely incomplete

Bleed
Holding on gets harder and harder
Giving up gets harder and harder
(Release)
The tension corrupts direction
I've lost control

Just keep on tighter and tighter, and keep control
Just hold on tighter and tighter, just hold me still

I think this song is about how he is the one that everyone goes to when they have a problem, but he never has anyone to go to. He always has to keep it together and be hard and calloused on the outside, but no one is there for him when he needs it.

    My Interpretation

my thoughts on this are that he has an addiction to a drug where he wants to quit but knows he cant, even though the consequences have become deadly. For example he has an addiction to heroine, or even simpler yet, cigarettes and he is dying. I think this meaning makes the most sense when you read the chorus "holding on gets harder and harder" (hes dying) and "giving up gets harder and harder" (he can't quit because he is addicted). The instrumental at the end might try to make it feel like the person has found release. It's a great song one of my favorites on this album I definetly like the technical riffs and the glockenspiel in the background at the end.

i was always puzzled on this song. i kept trying to over analyze it and what not, because a lot of their songs on the newest releases are very very deep and well thought out. basically though, the lyrics explain it all. its about feeling like the world and all its pressures/burdens are caving in on you, and you don't know what to do. you lose focus and you feel like giving up. its like every day is a struggle. the pressures of life lead you to lose sight of your goals, and you tend to head in the wrong direction. the song is about him trying to keep control of his life, but he just can't seem to. and then in the next song, homecoming, he finally sets himself free from all these burdens and sets his life on track.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Punchline

Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
