Labyrinthian Lyrics

Drag my face through the dirt again
I know I'm where I belong
For you're a constant reminder
Of all the rights that I've wronged

Give me the strength to move this mountain
To block this line of sight
This was more than I could ask for
Tear down the sky
Black out the sky
Sever these ties

As you further your tragedy
To prove to me you're alive
Sooner or later we'll have to choose
From this, a new set of lies

Give me the strength to flood this valley
To wash my hands of you

This was more than I could ask for
Tear down the sky
Black out the sky
Sever these ties

So here I stand
This battered path laid out before me
And no one said this would be easy
But it's something I must do for myself
It's going to be a long hard road

Know I will let go
This time it feels so right to forget

This was more than I could ask for
Tear down the sky
Black out the sky
Sever these ties

So here I stand
This battered path laid out before me
And no one said this would be easy
But it's something I must do for myself
It's going to be a long hard road
Which I will walk alone

this song to me it's about religion, why? Simple, things like:

"Give me the strength to move this mountain"

He is giving up in his faith, I realized that when I heard:

"This battered path laid out before me And no one said this would be easy But it's something I must do for myself It's going to be a long hard road Which I will walk alone "

When he said that that was a path he would walk alone, that's when I realized the meaning of the song. Actually, that's not the only song in the album that has that meaning. But this songs is fucking badass.

The last verse should read:

"So here I stand This battered man laid out before you"

This song is fucking epic

agreed...the whole song is basically an epic story, or at least something that would lead into an epic story.

A breakup? Maybe he needs the strength to break off a relationship with someone he really cares about - and who really cares about him - because despite the pain, it's what's best for him.

I'd have to disagree with the religious comment. There isn't much in this song that lends itself to being that of a religious one.

The notion that he's coming out of a relationship is more plausible with the lines "It's going to be a long hard road, which I will walk alone"

He's walking alone as he's lost his partner.

And the lines "Give me the strength to move this mountain" is not necessarily a plea to some deity. He's become disillusioned and bitter and so he's trying to inspire some recovery from this. "To wash my hands of you".. Once again addressing his partner. He could simply be talking to himself, further emphasising the fact that he's alone.

This song is amazing.

I feel like this message couldn't be any more obvious. It's definitely a message of cutting ties with someone (maybe or maybe not a significant other), but someone he's close to. He cuts ties, and must now walk the battered path laid out before him.

His pleas for strength are there because it is not easy block someone important to you from your thoughts.

I got the impression he was imagining heading toward a hard goal. To achieve what was aimed he must abandon all ties, so he may just be referring to all his previous bonds simply as 'you'. He talks of lies and general deception and unpleasantness frequently, so he must have chosen to leave his life as it was just a trap, with nothing good for him in it. His new objective, that which would lead him from the other he wishes to abandon, I'd imagine is morally and mentally hard to arrive at, hence the 'battered path' referral.

This may be a long shot, but to me it sounds like this song could be about drug addiction. The reason why I say this is because I am an addict myself. and when I listen to this song, I fit the lyrics in almost spot on with how I would describe my addiction and the toll it has taken on my life. It seems as if he may be trying to overcome the addiction from these lyrics. "Give me the strength to move this mountain" is pretty self explanatory because to quit an addiction is very difficult. "This was more than I could ask for" may mean he thought he was in control at first, but it completely took over as he now has no control. "As you further your tragedy to prove to me you're alive" may mean as the addiction progresses, he's reminded that the drug is in full control. "Give me the strength to flood this valley to wash my hands of you"....he is seeking the energy and motivation to stop so he can gain control of his life again. The last few lines of the song essentially mean quitting the addiction and pretty much starting your life over on a new fresh page takes a lot of work, strength and willpower. It's a long hard road which he will have to face and overcome himself, by himself, for hisself.
