My friend died, write a song about it, make it good. Make it awesome, make it catchy, make it unforgettable. Because if it's not and people forget him, then it's all your fault. Make us sad, make us happy, make us feel unimaginable. Cause your basically spitting on his grave if it's not. We assume your heart is broken. We assume you really knew him. We assume you've got some feelings that you need to sublimate. And the beauty that is in your song will reflect how deep he touched you. So we'll judge how good your song is, then we'll judge the way you feel. We need catharsis, we need cheering up and if you're music can't do that then it must not be worth anything. And you say your music is your life, so if your music can't do that, then by extension your life must not be worth anything.

"A friend of mine named Ben died this summer and I wrote this the night that I found out. He and I posted on the same internet message board, someone else on the message board had talked about how we should write songs for him, that he would've done that for one of us we had died. My dad died a year and a half ago, and after he died I tried to write a song about him and it came out very awful and I was embarrassed and a little bit ashamed about it. So this song is about the pressure that I feel whenever I'm trying to write a song about someone I know who died. I dedicate it to Ben."
