Missy Lyrics
Missy got off the bus one day
In a crowded depot, downtown LA
She looked around as if to say, 'I'm home'
But I'm home
I'll find someone to love
And some place to drink
And some time when I can just sit and think
And I don't mind if I catch the stink of these drones
Lord, of these drones
Just as long as I'm never alone
She had eyes as big as porcelain plates
And skin as thin as paper drapes
And she loved the Lord the way an apostate loves psalms
And she'd sing to him before she went to sleep:
"I pray to you, my soul to keep
You're a shepherd and I'll be your sheep
Until dawn, oh until dawn
Well I'd follow you, even if it was wrong"
I met her one night at the coffee shop
Her face so bright, my heart just stopped
Hello my dear, I fear I'm not what I seem
Not what I seem
I should've become a better man
I should be more deserving than
The beggar, thief and courtesan I've been
Oh, that I've been
But I swear, I lie, I curse, I love my dreams
But I swear there's still some good in me
And I think if you stuck around you'd see
All the lost attempts at integrity, I was had
Maybe you could help me, I'd get it right
I stay awake almost every night, staring at the ceiling
Wondering why I feel so bad, why I feel so bad
But I swear, I swear, I swear I'll never get sad
In a crowded depot, downtown LA
She looked around as if to say, 'I'm home'
But I'm home
And some place to drink
And some time when I can just sit and think
And I don't mind if I catch the stink of these drones
Lord, of these drones
Just as long as I'm never alone
And skin as thin as paper drapes
And she loved the Lord the way an apostate loves psalms

Until dawn, oh until dawn

I think it's written in admiration for this... "Missy." Written in awe for how strong-willed and dedicated to her faith she remains, despite living in a place as ungodly and tempting as downtown Los Angeles. Missy has inspired him, and he begins to plead his case theoretically to her, but in reality to himself and his own conscious. And just as the song sparks our interest, it drops us in a cliffhanger, leaving it open for us to imagine whether or not he fulfilled his desire to start to become a better person.
I didn't do any digging, obviously. Just what I take from the lyrics.
agreed.
agreed.
so catchy! :D can't wait to see them in a couple months!!
The lyrics say this Missy character loves the Lord the way an apostate loves Psalms. Apostate is a name given to someone who loses all faith and rejects the church. I still don't fully understand why she prays after that in the song.
yeah i agree with you. It is "Psalms".

hmm, about a relationship gone bad but still with feelings for the person and such...pretty kinda self explanatory yet open for interpretation.
*changing interpretation... maybe he wants to have sex with her and she's all religious and he's just a player and feels sorry for putting her on, and possibly having sex her?
according to mikel during a live concert, this song is about "finding yourself in music" (and that's about as much of an intro as he has given to any song i've heard live yet), so it makes it seem like it's a very positive thing. i don't know how exactly it relates to the girl named missy, or if missy is perhaps a personification of the idea of music (finding a "home" in downtown l.a.), but it could be somewhat of a celebration of music in general, or airborne's personal trek from nothing to stardom.
"Well I'd follow you even if it was wrong"
This always seemed to me like a reference to people who are so deep in their religion that they're blinkered to anything that might be wrong with it. With this line being Missy saying to God that she'd follow him even if it was wrong. Idk if that fits in with the rest of the song though.
