Willow Tree Lyrics

Sleep all day
Just waiting for the sun to set
I hang my clothes
Up on the line

When I die
I'll hang my head beside the willow tree
When I'm dead
Is when I'll be free

And you can take my body
Put it in a boat
Light it on fire
You can use the kerosene

Take my body
Put it in a boat
Light it on fire
Send it out to sea

(Woo)

Yeah yeah yeah

Sleep all day
Just waiting for the sun to set
I hang my clothes
Up on the line

When I die
I hang my head beside the willow tree
When I'm dead
Is when I'll be free

So you can take my body
Put it in a boat
Light it on fire
Use the gasoline

Take my body
Put it in a boat
Light it on fire
Send it out to sea

I think he may have been going for that nervous sound....beautiful song.

Watching him play this live with Lillian Penner was the most somber, but beautiful thing ever. The song is beautiful, another perfect account of someones view of death and dying. That there is in fact beauty in death, and not to be afraid, just accept it.

my boyfriend plays chad vangaalen on his record player all the time and this song always stands out to me. its so beautiful and sad, and I love his voice. the imperfections remind me of conor oberst and how the nervousness makes songs more genuine, more heartbreaking. so pretty

i have to disagree, it didn't remind me of conor oberst at first. personally, i think conor oberst hasa certain uniqueness to him that only he can posses. when i first heard this song, it reminded me of devendra banhart a wee bit, and feist. it came up on shuffle on my itunes and i actually did think it was feist, ha! nonetheless, it's a wonderful song. the message the song had sort of reminds me of "seahorse" by devendra banhart.

I love the lyrics and the melody but I can't bear his voice! He warbles and sounds so incredibly nervous it makes me squirm.
