One Red Thread Lyrics
oh from the first that the line got drawn
it was poison in the land it was on
one red thread through the middle of a song
my only one, my only one
I can't remember the age that i was
but not that story that pumped in my blood
when you were the savior
and I was the taker of
oh where i was
oh but man oh man you can do what you want
oh man oh man you can do what you want
the only line that is true is the line you're from
I have to say there was a mile or two
I had the itch to fly and i flew
now at best we would make our dreams
with something used
with something used
and from the minute that the line got drawn
I couldn't see straight to you for nothing
now me, I'm the poison in one
yah I'm the one
I am the...
oh but man oh man you can do what you want
oh man oh man you can do what you want
the only line that is true is the line that you're...
oh man oh man you can do what you want
oh man oh man you can do what you want
the only line that is true is the line you're from
the only line that is true is the line you're from
it was poison in the land it was on
one red thread through the middle of a song

"An invisible red thread connects those who are destined to meet, regardless of time, place, or circumstance. The thread may stretch or tangle, but it will never break."
That is an old eastern asian belief about a red thread of destiny.
Recently i've been dealing with the sad truth that my love and i will have to split because of the different paths our lives are moving. but we're convinced that we're soul mates. and i dont know how to explain that to you. you just know when it happens. and.
well. To me. right now relating this song to my life is like.
"oh but man oh man you can do what you want oh man oh man you can do what you want the only line that is true is the line you're from"
You can do what want. go and live your life. The thread will bring you back because that is where the truth is at the end.
"I have to say there was a mile or two I had the itch to fly and i flew"
He had urges to go and discover the world. and he did.
"one red thread through the middle of a song my only one, my only one"
Soul mate.
@onceacanary That's beautiful. Thank you.

I keep playing this song over and over again. This song completely resembles a relationship of mine that just ended. My favorite line is the part where it says "the only line that is true is the line you're from" I believe he is talking about your family being the only thing you ever really have. For me that is true. I've been through many different relationship and lost a couple different girls that I really felt like I loved. When they were gone all I had was my family. I think when he says I had the itch to fly so I flew he's talking about just being single for a while after leaving a relationship. Now at best we would make our dreams with something used could be talking about getting back with a former love. I love the repetition of man oh man you can do what you want because really in a relationship all we have control of is ourselves. I will never ask another girl to stay. In my opinion they can do what they want. If they want to stay with me they will... if not, the only line that is true is the line that I'm from.
I was told once by a dear friend he was in love with the place I was from. This was back when I had only written one song, it was about the first girl I ever kissed, her name was "the shine". I can't exactly remember how old we were at the time, I think our ages together it was less than thirty, but my recollection of the smells, sights and feelings are as clear as blood is red. This friend of mine, I sometimes think of him as an old man, because he always aspires to be old- it's a funny concept. He's like a brother to me, I call him my brother sometimes ... but he started it. Anyway, connections to people that go back that far are somehow sacred like an ancient hieroglyph. We got into an argument - had a misunderstanding. We all make mistakes in life sometimes you drift away from the people that mean the most to you. The thing is you can't make anyone do anything. Everyone makes their own choices. I told him that one day when he tried to blame me for making him wait around. - Don't know if he remembers but I said something like "You can do what you want - I don't make you do anything." He said something like, "You're right." And then he left. We're still friends. Sometimes he's the Tyler Durden, sometimes I'm the Tyler Durden. Sometimes we're not as good of friends to each other as we should be, but we try. It's a two way street. These mistakes they change the dynamic, we don't sit around all afternoon on the window sill, listening to Snoop Dogg, Cracker, Beck and the Grateful Dead. We don't hang out at the bowling alley and play Street Fighter II all day, and we don't try to hustle tourists at the pool table. This last time, I'm sorry, it was my fault. It's happened before, it'll happen again. Really its the people that we are closest to that matter.
“The only way you get universal is by getting really, really specific, and avoiding universal clichés.” - Israel Nebeker
Nebeker sometimes writes songs (melodies, words, ideas, sometimes partial, sometimes whole) in his dreams, wakes up and writes them down. It can lead to some pretty f-ed up S- that sux Ballz. It can also lead to some really good stuff that has meaning, but that only Israels subconscious knows the answer to, maybe yours does too.
Nebeker once played the Role of Joseph in a high school presentation of Joseph and the Technicolor dream coat. Joseph was known for being a good interpreter of dreams, that's why he became the Pharaoh's right hand man. Maybe Nebeker is the opposite, maybe he's good at interpreting reality with his dreams. Who knows.
I was sure there would be more posts for this song. It's nice to listen to but I can't scrape up any meaning about it. I was sure there would be speculators. I'd really like to know what the heck this guy is talking about.
To me, this song means something sweet, but uncomfortable in its closeness. Maybe because of the reason I first heard it? I'm not sure. Anyway, this is what I think it means.
He's talking to his lover about the starting of their relationship. It was marked from the start; but he wanted to try, anyway. She won him over early on. But he's uncomfortable with their closeness; he not only implies her freedom to leave and to stay true to herself, but also suggests he maybe cheated early on. "I have to say for a mile or two/I got the itch to fly so I flew"
She knew, and it caused strife. He realized their relationship was marked because of him. He lost sight of her, and what he wants.
I think it's about being in love with someone, but knowing you're not the best person for them, and trying to get them to leave you so you don't have to do it yourself.
This song reminds me of the first concert of ever went to. It was a miniscule punk band but that changed my life. I remember seeing the lead singer totally into the song, sweating, singing, playing his heart out, and the rest of the band putting in so much into the music. Can't help but fall in love with it and move. Everything was in slow motion and complete bliss. We were moving to the same red thread that connected us all somehow, the feeling, the music, whatever.
His lyrics, not just in this particular song but in most really speak to me. I like how he uses stream-of-consciousness at times, jumping from one concept to another without much of a transition on the surface but a deep connection underneath.
As odd as it may sound, the lyrics here make me think of native Americans, and the lines that Europeans drew when they came to this continent. I think Israel was upset when he learned this part of our history, as many of us our.
I could be way off, of course.
What color is the line on a birth control test?
Typically pink/blue? baby colors, haha
